Visiting Berkeley 4/8

I am flying up from San Diego on my spring break to visit the campus by myself.

I think I am going to try to hop on the 10am daily tour.

I want to talk to some people about the school, life up there, and tips on how to be a successful transfer.

Anyone recommend something I should definitely see or check out while I am there? Any advice for a SDCC Honor Student? Anyone wanna hang out while I am there?

Thanx

Yea…go hang out at Strada Cafe (or any other Cafe on campus).
Take a look at your (possible) future class mates. See what the culture is like around there.

Know anyone living in a frat or a co-op? Go check out those places and see if it’s your scene.

Otherwise, there’s nothing wrong with hanging out with a book in Sproul Plaza all day to people-watch.

There’s also the Transfer office in lower Sproul. Go talk to the people there.
They’re really laid back (like most people in the area).

I say screw the tour and explore on your own. Get a feel for the campus for yourself, you don’t need anyone to tell you what to think.

Sit in on a class in your major. Go to schedule.berkeley.edu and find some classes in your major and email the professor asking to sit in…It establishes a relationship with people in your department.

People watch on Sproul (it’s currently election season so prepare to be bombarded with people carrying signs and flyers)…go to Free Speech Movement Cafe…explore the surrounding area and make sure you are happy with it…Go down Shattuck Ave or Telegraph

You should do both the tour and explore on your own. If you do the tour, come prepared w/ lot’s of questions…I know I personally learned a lot about the campus from the tour I took several months prior to admittance. If you do explore on your own, Cafe Milano is cool & the view from the I-House cafe is really cool in the evening. The transfer center has workshops going on often so you might want to see if anything that interests you is coming up.

And eat at Cheeseboard over on Shattuck in the gourmet ghetto.
