visiting berkeley

I'm going to be visiting berkeley this friday (june 9) from florida. any suggestions on what i should go check out?

take the tour and walk down telegraph. that's most berkeley students' everyday. if you like hiking, hike up to the big c and check out the view. just hit the trails at the top of memorial stadium.

if you can, rock zachary's pizza on college near the rockridge bart station--awesome.

yes i agree with stryet. just a word of caution though Berkeley is kinda dead right know due to the fact that classes just finished and most students go home. So if Berkeley doesn't seem that lively its because not many students are their.

I agree, take the tour. I'd say check out the Cheese Board on Shattuck on Northside- that one is a bit of a walk. What sort of food might you and your family want to eat?.

Check out the different dorms, at least from the outside, (unit 1 or 2, unit 3 (similar to the other two but a bit different), Clark Kerr, Foothill, and Bowles or Stern). Hmmm . . . find which buildings hold a few of your potential departments, check out the sundown from the top of the Campinile or from the top of Barrows hall (right near Sproul).

Talk to as many full time students as you can, especially those in disciplines closely relating or that are your potential areas of study.

Check out the main library if you're into that, or there are musuems on campus. I think Berkeley might even have a suggestions sheet of things to do when visiting campus- search the berkeley.edu website.

thanks for all the responses everybody! i'm starting to get really excited. :)

drab-
my family doesn't eat a lot of meat really so if there's any vegetarian places nearby, that'd be awesome. do you know of any?

Cheeseboard! They serve no meat. But there are many vegetarian dishes at many different restaraunts around campus. In particular . . . I can't think of anything . . . Cha Am, a Thai restaraunt ( http://www.shopinberkeley.com/c/chaam/index.php ) is amazing, has vegetarian stuff, and was voted as honorary mention in the Best of Berkeley Daily Californian poll in the Thai food category. It's on Northside on Shattuck, a short walk from campus or a short Taxi ride (or bus ride). Adagia is dirrectly south of campus (near Boalt) and has mid-priced fancy food that is delicious and might have what you're looking for. Cafe Muse has a lot of raw foods and organic and sustainable and that sort of things food. It's sort of strange and fun. These are a few things that come to mind. Oh, there's a really good Indian restaraunt on University called Viceroy- the service is average to lousy, but the food is very, very good. If you want Indian (which has many great vegetarian dishes), Viceroy is the place (many students prefer Na'an'n'curry, which is more convenient on Southside but the quality is just not anywhere near viceroy's). There are so many restaraunts that you will not get a chance to eat at all of them in your four or so years at Berkeley. :)

And then there is always Chez Panisse and the gourmet ghetto. shrug Hard to say!

Edit: I can't find the "best of berkeley" article, which might have a vegetarian category- if you want I can locate it amongst the stack of 50 or so daily Cals sitting in my room and check.
