Hi,
I have to book a plane ticket for CalSO, since I've never been there before, should I choose Oakland as destination? I am from around Los Angeles and what public transport can I take from airport to the campus? Please give me some ideas if you've had past experience, thank you!

the oakland airport is closer to berkeley than SFO, but i think both are doable.

scroll down to oakland international airport

SFO is a mess of an airport because it's so huge, so if you have the option I would highly recommend OAK. Of course, if you're used to LAX it might not be such a big problem. Nevertheless, OAK is the closer of the two, which means a shorter BART ride into Berkeley.

Speaking of: the BART is definitely the cheap and easy way to get from airport to town. From OAK, just take the AirBART bus ($3 one-way fare to the BART station; be sure you have $3 in exact cash/change!) and then take the Pittsburg/Baypoint BART, transfer at 12th Street, and get on the Richmond train (or just take the Richmond train if you have the option) and get off at Downtown Berkeley (which is just after Ashby -- one way fare is $2.10). It'll leave you about 2 blocks off of west campus, which is as close as you can get.

You can then take any number of buses ($1.75 one-way, plus $.25 if you want a transfer) to get to wherever you'd like: 43 travels up and down Shattuck, 51 University/College (crosses Telegraph, as does the 40/L and the 7, and goes all the way down to the marina in the other direction). I don't know where they ask you to go for the arrival at CalSO, but if you want to head to the Units you'd want to take the 51 which departs from the corner of Allston x Shattuck (which is directly outside the big round main exit from the BART station).

There is no Pittsburg-Bay Point Train at the Coliseum/Oakland Airport Station. You just take the Richmond train to get to downtown Berkeley.

I was thinking San Francisco. You're right! Thank you.
