Visiting Brown next week

I got accepted ED and will be visiting Brown/Providence next week for my Spring Break (won’t be able to go to ADOCH since it’s during the school week). What places/events/classes/etc should I check out while I’m there? I’ll be staying at a hotel about 5-10 min from Brown, so I’ll be fairly close to the campus, but what’s transportation like in Providence? Is there anything else I should know before I go?

:)

Remember to bring me something (not a leaf).

You should try to stay overnight with a student (<a href="http://www.brown.edu/Students/Bruin_Club/overnight.html)%5B/url%5D">http://www.brown.edu/Students/Bruin_Club/overnight.html)</a>.</p>

Try to attend some classes in areas you're interested in. Schedule yourself some free time to just wander around the campus and get a feel for what it's like to be here. Also make sure to take a walk down the hill and see what Providence is like.

One cult class that's really popular (and really great) is Prof. Morone's PS22: City Politics. It's abnormally huge, but it's really, really good. It meets in Salomon 101 T/Th at 10.30.

Oh yeah, I actually am staying in the dorms for one night, so that's taken care of. And I'll definitely try to check that class out. Thanks guys. Anything else I should go see?

Wander around the campus and just see some of the awesome buildings, especially Sayles Hall (classroom buliding and gorgeousbig room used for concerts, lectures, parties, etc... awesome organ!), Robinson Hall (Economics department... just a really cool building), Smith-Buonanno (classroom building that is just really nifty), etc.

Also, just try to get a feel for the student body. Introduce yourself to random people and tell them you're a prefrosh. I bet you nine out of ten of them will be really nice and excited to talk to you.

Go to as many classes as possible. If you're already committed to coming here, you might as well start shopping, because it's pretty hard to get your courses narrowed down to 4 once you're actually here!

And I second City Politics. Also look into HA86: contemporary architecture. If you're interested in bio, Bio20 is supposed to have great lecturers (Ken Miller and Stein).

if you're a science person, try to go to Professor Zimmt's orgo section. MWF 9AM. Yeah its early, but he's an incredible and absolutely unique teacher.
