My son and I are going to be visiting Brown Thursday afternoon (July 13th), and I noticed on the admissions website that tells when the tours and info sessions are that it indicates parking will be extremely difficult this week. Can anyone tell me what is going on that will make it so difficult? When I visited two years ago with my daughter, we had kind of a tough time finding a parking space on the street, so I’m wondering if this week will be an impossible time to visit. Any suggestions about where to park? We really can’t visit any other time, so if it’s going to be impossible to park anywhere near the campus, we may just skip it altogether.

You'll find a spot if you go several blocks away. You can always park downtown and walk or cab up the hill.

Thanks. I guess I was also wondering what in particular was going on this week that would make it unusually hard to find a space.

it could be the film crews. their trailers tend to take up several blocks

Thanks. I just got through to admissions, and that's what they said, too.

Anyone have any suggestions of must-see places at Brown? I'll be there on July 18th...just curious...

I have a questions too: is it worth it to visit Brown (and colleges in general) in the summer when all they have are tours going on? (and maybe a few summer classes) As in, do you think seeing a college in the summer and going on a tour will give a person a good enough "feel" of the school and whether they will fit in?

Thanks

It's definitely worth visiting Brown, period, or any school for that matter. I visited last summer, and I chose to apply ED. However, I probably would have enjoyed my tour even more if I had gone during the school year, as the general campus was pretty quiet when I went during the summer break. You would see more activities, be able to visit a class, talk to students etc. etc. - So your best bet is to wait a little until the fall semester begins, and then visit. I know my High School allowed "College Visitations" as an excused absence from school, so if you wanted to take a Sunday-Monday visit, that would probably be a good bet.

In terms of what to visit, I'm sure the more "indoctrinated" Brown students could answer this one 10x better than I could, but in general, I would check out the Quiet Green, the Main Green (givens), Lincoln Field (which is my personal favorite), the Ratty (if it's open when you go).... Also, walk down Thayer for a few minutes, checking out the area. During ADOCH, my parents also went to the Providence Place mall, which I heard was amazing.
