We will be visiting Drexel in a week and I was able to get an appointment with the Department my son is interested in, however the general info sessions/tours are full. Has anyone been able to get into a full session by showing up to see if there are any last minute cancellations? We can walk around on our own, but I did want to hear about the co-op program and scholarships. Any advice?

When we visited Drexel, there were a huge number of people in the info session, then they just divided us into groups and told us to go with a tour guide, depending on where we were sitting. No one checked to be sure we had registered for the tour or info session. I’d say you should just show up–I don’t see how anyone will know that you don’t officially belong there. (You won’t get the info packet and they probably won’t have a record of your visit–unless you make a point to tell them-- but you’ll get the information you need.) I think it would be a shame to go all the way to campus and not get to go to the info session and tour (not sure if it’s far for you to travel). We found the tour especially helpful–it gave us a much better impression of Drexel than we had before the visit.

Also, I’m sure they get a lot of last minute cancellations, so you might be able to get them to “approve” your attending the info session and tour by calling that day or the day before. Good luck!

I agree with NJ Mom. It is unfortunate that you didn’t get to register but we are a school who is looking to recruit students so if you come to an information session unannounced we won’t deny you information. On top of that I would recommend wandering the campus on your own to learn a little bit about Drexel that you won’t learn in an information session.

If you have any other questions you can message me.

Best of luck,

Thanks for the advice everyone-pretty much what I was thinking. We will try to “crash” one of the sessions! We will be getting into the city late Monday night from our visit in North Carolina. Any advice on an inexpensive, but nice, safe place to stay? We are totally unfamiliar with the city. My thought is to stay possibly right outside the city on whatever interstate we will be coming in on…which eludes me at the moment!

Try this site for hotels. [Campus Philly Hotel Discounts](http://www.campusphilly.org/articles.nsf/pages/hoteldiscounts.html) I would try to stay in the city if possible so you can get the full flavor. You could use priceline. A better place for hotel recommendations is here: [Philadelphia Hotels: Read Philadelphia Hotel Reviews and Compare Prices - TripAdvisor](http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g60795-Philadelphia_Pennsylvania-Hotels.html) Ask on the forum for a hotel near Drexel or Penn.

I would not worry about crashing the session, there will definitely be people that don’t come.

Since we will be getting into the city so late the night before our visit, we won’t have much time to be in the city. Even with discounts, the city hotels are more than we want to pay. That being said, are there less expensive areas, coming in from the South on 95? I want the hotel to be convenient to the Interstate as it will be late night.
We will go into the city and park for the day on Tuesday and do some exploring around our (crashed)info session and department session.

Why not use priceline or hotwire? I got a room for a visit at Pitt for $89 right downtown. I’ve had the same luck with the Omni in Philly.

If you still want to go full price but cheaper, get a place near the airport. Right off of I-95 and west of Philadelphia for easy in and out.
