ctyankee, I hope sparkysdad’s tongue was in his cheek when he typed that. Snobby attitudes can happen anywhere.

Accommodations are definitely a personal choice. My husband isn’t a fan of Archer House either; I think it depends on which room you end up in. One thing I love about it is that it’s right on Division St., so you can easily walk to campus or around town. Definitely try out Blue Monday coffee house while you’re there and the Indian restaurant (that’s in the Archer House). What time of the year are you planning to visit?

I agree with limner - “accommodations are definitely a personal choice.” I’ve stayed at Archer House twice because it’s very convenient and within walking distance of the campus and Northfield shops/restaurants. We chose to stay near the Twin Cities this last time because we were there over family weekend with five people - there was nothing available for our large party in or near Northfield. Having said that, I think my husband would probably choose to pass on Archer House. And we’re not from the Northeast either - North Carolina here. :)

ctyankee, it seems as though a few cool things still go on over the summer, even though school isn’t in session. so, even though visiting during the school year would be better, there still seems to be some things going on! i’m a theatre geek, but i really like the sound of this group: UNCO (Their website appears to not have been updated in quite a while, though.)

OK, I can now definitively state that the best accomodations in Northfield are at the Alumni Guest House. If you are going for a visit on an off weekend (not Parents Weekend, Graduation, etc), give them a try.
