Visiting Chicago University - need help

My D and I will be visiting Chicago university in early October. Any suggestions on what we should see / do to get the most complete picture of the university life? What is the best place to stay (I will not have a car)? We will be there for 1.5 days

University of Chicago? Is that the school?

I am also assuming you are talking about the University of Chicago. but for any school, the best thing to do is an overnight visit. See if your daughter can get a host student for the day. It is the best way to see what life at that school is really like.

You could be talking about....

--University of Chicago (Hyde Park, south side, near the Museum of Science and Industry)
-- University of Illinois-Chicago (Near West Side)
-- Loyola University of Chicago (Rogers Park-- super north and downtown locations)
-- Chicago State University (95th and State)

No matter what school it is, the best place to start is the vistors page on the school website.

If it is University of Chicago, try to fly into Midway airport, not O'Hare.

There are very few hotel options in the immediate area of the University, known as Hyde Park. You can get listings via hotels.com by selecting the university as your landmark. You can check with a BnB service - there are a couple of BnBs that are convenient. Another option is to stay in downtown Chicago and use the train system to get to Hyde Park.

^^ Also, International House (I-House) on campus is easily accessible by public transportation and provides inexpensive hotel rooms for visitors.

When we fly into Midway (son is a grad student at U. Chicago) we now stay at one of the hotels right next to the airport. It's a much better selection than the dingy Ramada Inn, which as far as I know it the only hotel in Hyde Park at the moment. Some of the airport hotels are also less expensive than the Ramada.
