<p>I agree with Racin, an isolated class isn’t going to give you a feel for the student population - nor will one class.</p>
<p>Ideally, attend any school on your list midweek-- visit and get a sense of the mood on campus during the week when students have classes, assignments, etc…Try to visit a typical freshman class that you might understand (i.e. if you’re taking AP Physics now, then attend Physics at that level), eat on campus and arrange to spend time with current students. Reach out to the department and connect with students in your potential major, clubs or other areas of interest. Do you play a sport, do you know someone from your high school who currently attends CMU, are you interested in a religious organization/ethnic, cultural-- try to make connections this way.</p>
<p>I don’t recommend visiting on the Sunday after Spring Carnival b/c you’ll be picking up the wrong vibe-- it’s an atypical weekend-- and backing into the last two weeks of class. Students will be going from intense enjoyment during Carnival (with no classes or school work on a three day holiday) to intense end-of-semester madness- if you can, travel early April.</p>
