Visiting Classes

I'm going to the Open House on April 16th. To visit classes, do I need to sign up or register with the professor or do I just go and sit-in on whatever classes I want?

When you sign in, they give you a big packet of stuff. One of things is a list of classes in each department that you can sit in on (as well as times and location). For those classes, you can just walk in, take a seat, and listen and/or take notes if it so interests you.

Now suppose you really want to sit in on a quantum mechanics class but you’re not sure if it is in the schedule, just send an e-mail to the professor (I think Broholm teaches quantum :)) and I’m sure they’ll be glad to let you sit in.

If you look at the course schedule (the listings and the room schedule are at [Registrar’s Office | Spring 2008 Course Schedule](<a href=“Registrar - Homewood Schools (KSAS & WSE) | Office of the Registrar | Johns Hopkins University”>Registrar - Homewood Schools (KSAS & WSE) | Office of the Registrar | Johns Hopkins University)), you’ll be able to find where and when classes are. For large classes, it won’t be a problem at all to just sit in on the class. For smaller classes, I’d probably just introduce myself to the professor and let them know you’ll be there.

When I visited one college (not Hopkins) and sat in on a french class, the professors actually involved the three prospective students (in a class of 15ish) in the discussion, asking us questions and having us take part in the group activities, which I thought was really coool.

When I went to a open house as a prefrosh near the end of senior year, I decided to sit in at one of the classes. One of them was a Business Telecomunications class. Lucky for me, The professor was excited to have me there because there was a very special guest speaker that was a korean guy who was a Hopkins Alumni and he was the CEO of two major companies. I don’t know what really happened, he gave a really good powerpoint presentation on marketing stratgies and at one point he pulled out his Motorola RAzr and said: “every cellphone has my patented chip technology in it.” I was impressed.

Who knows, you might be able to bump into a class with a millionaire CEO guest speaker.

I’ve had broholm before, I like his dirty german accent

“ooooh, do you like that ya?”

“do you understand?”

“ooh, I’m afraid I’m running out of time” (when the class ended 5 minutes ago)

He is actually Danish I believe, not German.
