I live pretty close to Atlanta, but I've never visited the campus. I've heard that Emory looks pretty unfavorably upon people who don't visit when they have the ability to do so, so I'm hoping to go next weekend. Will it still be looked upon unfavorably since I'm visiting so close to the deadline? I intended to visit what schools I needed to after I was already accepted, but since Emory puts so much weight on interest, I think it'd be smarter to visit before I get a decision.

Do it - if you live “close” to Atlanta, definitely do it.

Judging by your location, why apply to Emory anyway? haha.

Still visit asap

An alum told me at an off-campus information session that Emory only places emphasis on interest because they want to know that you’ve done your research and that you are applying to Emory knowing that you want to go there (rather than just applying to see if you can get in). He said that if you’ve been to an information session and whatnot then that’s good enough; you don’t have to send thirty emails to the admissions office, order the DVD, go to two off-campus info sessions, visit campus, etc. Just show that you’ve done your research and you think Emory is a good fit.

I don’t see why visiting close to the deadline is very dangerous, though. Although you do live nearby, sometimes people just don’t have time to visit until a certain date, and maybe that date just happens to be close to the deadline.

Because they have a good neuroscience program lol. And they’d take some of my college credit.

@FallenAngel9 I haven’t even been to an info session. I was just worried that they’d still see the delay as a lack of interest. Though I did try, I wouldn’t even have been able to visit if they hadn’t pushed the deadline back.

Why not? Metro Atlanta folks make up a majority of those who hail from Georgia here. Why do people in metro Atlanta want to go to Tech? Why do people in Baltimore/DC metro apply to GWU, JHU, Georgetowne, and American? They are close, but awesome! Many choose to live on campus instead of commute. nne710, you’ve at least been over here before right? I currently live in my campus apartment with an apartmentmate who has never seen Tech’s campus, but lives in Gwinnett County. Shocking! Nothing would surprise me at this point. Anyway, I really don’t see why you’d need a formal visit if you have been here before.

A lot of the college application process is obvious. Just do it.

Are you not curious about a place where you might spend the the next four years?

If you get in, do live on campus. Otherwise you’ll miss so much.

I was going to visit after the application process if I got in.

But yeah I’m going to go ahead and visit this weekend. Better than nothing.

I see nothing negative about a visit close to the deadline - this is when you have the time to visit, so do it.
