Hey,
I applied RD to Colby, and after an initial review of my application they sent me an invitation to visit them in the first week of March all expenses paid for their "Colby Live" program. While I don't need the money to go visit them, it is definately a great incentive to go up there from Westchester, NY.
Is anyone else invited/going to this? Also, does anyone ahave any tips/things to look out for while visiting? I also must add that I have never been to Maine before, even though i've been up to nearby states a lot. Therefore, I don't know much about Colby or Maine, and was hoping some of you could fill me in on them.
Also, I was hoping to get some contacts of people who go there to meet up/hang out with while im up there for the weekend.
Thanks and good luck all.

Maine is absolutely beautiful, in an untouched wilderness kind of way. It can get very chilly and snowy, there is great skiing about an hour away at Sugarloaf/Sunday River, and the social culture seems to encourage an unusual sort of friendliness =).

What are you thinking about studying in college/ what classes woudl you be interested in seeing and what other activities are you interested in?

I'm thinking of studying Econ with another major/minor in cs or math... Do you know about Colby's standing with double majors or such?
I play in a very competitive intramural bball league and am also the captain of my HS track team. I also play ultimate frisbee on our school team sometimes. I'm Indian (as in my parents are from India) and am interested in learning about the diversity and cultural clubs of the sort at Colby.
Also, since it appears you attend colby, where did you go to HS, and how often do you feel the need to go back home?

Be sure to check out Pad Thai Too on Kennedy Memorial Drive or Slates in Augusta/Hallowell for truly amazing food.

I definitely recommend the double major if you know you're highly interested in both. I am a double major in Math and Physics. Both the Math and Economics departments at Colby are great. The Economics department has a particularly good reputation.

I went to high school at a not-notorious-for-awesome-academics public high school in Rome, NY (Central NY state). I have been hoem twice since school started, heh. I absolutely LOVE Colby, my friends here, and the opportunities that the great outdoors of Maine offers me. I do miss my dad's house in NH though, just because Imiss having the mountains in my backyard (mountains are an hour or so away from Colby).

The Econ department here is one of the best in the nation, as dsasck said, and I hear that everyone who takes a course loves it. I am most probably gonig to double major in Biology and Govenrment...yep, very different ends of the spectrum, heh, but I love them both. The Math department here is also particularly good... I'm not sure if we are quite as well known for math as we are for Econ, but the staff is great and HIGHLY accessible!

Best of luck this weekend!

...nice to meet you, haha
