Visiting college after acceptance for free

So I heard that some schools have these special programs where they will pay your trip to visit their school that you haven't visited before. Anyone knows about this? Anyone wanna share their story?

I’ve heard of such also. I would most likely take the free visit to the university but I also would mention, wouldn’t you feel a little sympathy for the school if you happen to turn down acceptance? So if your not serious about attending the school, knowing you’ve been admitted to one you rather attend… I would suggest not to take the free trip. Unless the university reguardless would like you to visit in hope of a change of mind.

These programs are usually only for (1) scholarship candidates who need to interview on campus; (2) low-income or minority students for a Diversity Weekend or similar program; or (3) the very top candidates that they want to woo for academic or athletic purposes. I am not aware of any school that makes the offer to everyone they accept.

Chedva is correct. Such programs are almost always limited to just a few select candidates that a particular school is hoping to attract.

If a student has especially difficult financial circumstances (i.e. EFC is 0 and can’t come up with any money whatsoever) I have heard of some schools that will help the student visit. Some even have a small amount of funding set aside for this purpose, but only for students who ask. If this describes you, feel free to ask, but I wouldn’t guarantee anything.

bigp9998- Yup. I think MIT will help you pay for your travel if you can’t afford it to come to their Campus Preview Weekend.
