jym626 - I have recs from S. So as not to derail this thread, I will start a new one.

Carolyn - I know you could not get your D to look at Wooster ( they just sent my S specific information he requested ) He has a week off in Late January , please let me know how you D liked Wittenberg or anyone else who knows about Wittenberg . He is a Junior but ready.............

The order did not affect my D's choices one bit as a matter of fact she loved her last school as much as any of the others.
However, I may win the prize for the college trip visit from H*ll!
We live in one of the boroughs of NYC. We made our plans to leave late on a Wed afternoon last March and drive to Syracuse, stay over and see the University on Thurs, our appt was a noon. From there we were driving to SUNY Geneseo, staying over and seeing Geneseo on Fri, then drive to Ithaca, stay over and see Ithaca on Sat. It was a good plan.
We left NY in minor snow showers, no big deal. We drove into Jersey (for those not familiar, its easier to get upstate NY by going thru Jersey & Pa) and the snow started coming down HARD, mixing with ice. Traffic was a mess. Took us 4 hours to get to the Pa line, which is usually about an hour and a half. So we stop and eat, cause by now we are starving (big mistake..you'll see). We get back in the car, it's about 9:30 PM and drive about 3 miles into PA to see brake lights everywhere. I80 is a 2 lane road with a concrete divider, no shoulders. We stop dead in our tracks. We stay stopped. We stay stopped some more. Try to get info on the radio, but we can't get any news stations in the Pocono Mts (did manage to pick up a station from Montreal..go figure) felt like I was in the twilight zone. After not moving for 4 hours..not even a foot. I get out and ask the bus driver on the bus behind us to use the bathroom, which he allows. He tells me that he spoke to his dispatcher and there is an overturned tractor trailer 3 miles down the road blocking the whole road. We sat there UNTIL 6 IN THE MORNING!!!!! 8 freakin hours not moving. We still had 2 1/2 hours to go, so we drove to Syracuse, got there around 9. Since the hotel was paid for, we checked in took an hour nap and showered. We then went to the college. Needless to say, we were exhausted, and probably didn't get as much out ot the visit as we had hoped, but D still applied. Will go back if she decides its an option. The rest of the trip went well, but we were tired the whole weekend.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I know real estate brokers have a definite strategy in showing you homes. IIRC, they show you the nicest one last, the one that was above your price range.

Ah...no. I've never done that. And I've never shown above a specified price range without asking in advance after hearing numerous objections to what I have been showing. At which point I ask: price, location, size/features...where do you want the balance point to be? Sometimes they change location, sometimes they settle for smaller, sometimes they move up in price...that's their decision.

Also, the majority of showings around here are by appointment. Sequence is often dependent upon the availability of listing agents.

Well, you would know. I'm pretty sure a commercial agent did that to me when I was looking for office property, but may have been a coincidence.

easydoesitmom, I graduated from Wittenberg as did my sister. If you have any questions, PM me.

I have really missed reading your posts. Welcome back!

Wow. I had missed that.... Welcome back, Jamimom. I hope all is well with you and yours.

Jamimom's reply was from last year (2005).

Yes, you're right. How disappointing!

Ah. So, from not reading screen names, I progress to not reading dates.

Too bad...I'd love to see her back.

I'm pretty new to CC. What is a LAC? Is it a local university/college? an in-state college? or what?

For us newbies, can someone post a list of commonly used CC acronyms and their meanings. I just figured out that YHP (and other similar combos) means Yale, Harvard, Princeton (or the Ivies). I am clueless about some of the mentioned, but lesser known, college initials, so please list some of those, too (if its not UCLA, BC, UVA, USC, UTA, SMU, OSU, FSU, etc, I don't know what colleges people are talking about).

For Example:

D2 = 2nd Daughter (What is DD? Dear Daughter? Not Dumb Daughter!!)
BTW = By the way

I wish I had had my daughter look more closely at schools closer to home before we branched out to the entire nation. Once she saw beyond our state's borders, it was hard to get her to be enthusiastic about schools that looked "just like home" when she was already envisioning herself elsewhere. She also forever branded ALL east coast colleges as "too preppy for her" after we did early visits to Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall and Gettysburg. I've always wondered if we'd visited the quirky/out there schools first if she would have decided what she really wanted was a preppy school. :)

Do you guys make appts in advance of your visits? If so, with who and how do you set the appts up -- by phone, email, etc??? The admissions office? Dept heads? Who? I have noticed that some (not all) colleges have a link on their websites to set up tours, etc., but does the college admissions ever know that you were there and have interest in their college?
