The admissions website campus tour calendar doesn’t seem to have any upcoming dates at all. Does anyone know if it’s possible to get a tour during the last week of December or any time in January? Obviously, it’s not an ideal time as classes will not be in session and we won’t get a sense of the campus “in action” but if it’s the only feasible time, is it likely to be worthwhile?
Since it’s not available on their website, you could try calling their offices and requesting information. Generally, I would expect late Dec./early Jan. to have no tours due to the holidays. There might be tours available during the Winter Session; you should contact them to make sure.
Thanks - will try calling. (If anyone on this forum has any firsthand knowledge, though, please do share!)
@knockk00–This Friday is the last day of classes, followed by a five day reading period and eight days of exams (for those unlucky enough to have an exam on day eight). I doubt there are any admission activities taking place this month. Classes resume Jan 24th, but I do not know when admission activities start up again. As suggested above, best to call to confirm.
Thanks!!
Most of campus shuts down the end of December, but then winter session classes start up (it looks like they run from January 2-20), so things start running again. I agree you should call, but my guess would be something is available in January.
@Ranza123 — Has winter session become more of a ‘thing’? I never knew anyone wanting to remain on campus in January. Have heard of a few international trips or NYC/DC externship type things.
@CT1417 I personally don’t know anyone who stayed on campus to do winter courses, just people who did trips as part of a course they had taken in the fall. But I always get emails/fliers encouraging me to register for a winter course, so I guess somebody must do it! I can see it being beneficial if you plan on graduating early/studying abroad and you want to get a few extra credits in.
“Back in the day”, it seemed to always start snowing during fall semester finals week, and when we got back in late January the campus was blanketed.
Meaning one might expect a fair amount of snowfall to take place during the time between semesters.
The university is really efficient at dealing with snow while school is in session. I don’t know how they are when school is not in session. But I guess if they’re saying there are winter classes now, this might be less of a concern.
While seeing a snow-covered, closed (or mostly closed) campus may be better than nothing, it is far from ideal.
Particularly if the footpaths haven’t been cleared so you can’t even walk around. Or if it is too cold to want to walk around a lot. Mostly in winter we were heading from class to class, not doing a tour of the campus.
If indeed it has been or will be snowing when you go up there, be sure you are dressed like a Cornell student.
Winter coat, hat, scarf, gloves, footwear that is warm and good in snow and slush.
Decision are this Monday after 7Pm Eastern time
