Wondering if at all beneficial to visit campus during summer as opposed to school year (to make senior year less hectic). Heard that Sophomores stay for summer due to D-Plan. Would love to visit soon if worth it (if I can get a true feel for the school and student body) + just read that Sophomore Family Weekend is July 28-30. Is this strictly a time for Sophomores rejoicing with students/family at school or possibly a time to get a tours worth of info and a whole lot more? Thanks a lot.

While you won't see the campus in full action, you will get a good idea over the summer since you do have all of the sophomores there. If you go in the fall you won't have freshmen giving you a tour anyway, so the person you will be asking most questions of will be sophomore or older. On the other hand I would NOT visit over family weekend. The feel of the campus is not representative at all of a normal weekend.

I agree with Dartmom, while family weekend is pretty nice and laid back, it is not a good weekend to attend if you are looking to get a tour and get a feel for what the school offers as a prospective freshmen.

Keep in mind the students at sophmore summer are rising juniors, so even from a parent perspective the focus will be on different things.

Because so many things during family weekend are geared toward parents seeing their kids and students hanging out (at least for a little while) with their parents. Most the activities are more social than anything else so you really won't get a feel for student life. I would double check to see if they are even doing tours this weekend.

If anything, wait until the following weekend, it will be less crowded, the hotel rates will be lower again, and you may get an opportunity to do more talking with students on campus.
