Visiting dorms

So i'm going in like a week and a half to visit the nyu campus with my parents, and we called about visiting information. They said that you can just show up and sign up for a class in the morning and sit in on it. And that there are the traditional campus tours. HOWEVER- they said that they do not let visitors into the dorms!!! How on earth am I supposed to decide what dorm to go to if I can't get inside it? The lady said that there is an open house in April, but I think that's after the ED's choose between traditional and appartment style. Also she said you can get in if you know someone in the dorms. I don't know anyone. Can anyone help me with this problem?

thanks

They'll just show you a sample dorm room. They can't realistically have people traipsing through dorms when there are students living in them. You'll have to make your choice just like the rest of us have had to; either asking a friend to tour you around or reading about the different ones and making a choice based on that.

The dorms are really different, so you can easily decide just by reading about them. For example...

Hayden is almost entirely ED kids, great view, nice rooms, dining hall.

Brittany has the nicest rooms, walk-in closets, no dining hall, no A/C.

Rubin is on 5th avenue, nice rooms, a mediocre dining hall, no A/C.

Wienstein has the best location, terrible rooms, and a dining hall.

Third North and UHall have decent rooms, nice common rooms, kitchens, and dining halls.

I live in Brittany, which I think is the best residence hall hands down, because it was less expensive. It all depends on what is most important to you as a student.

Also, the open house is before housing assignments are made.
