I am taking my son to Denison next week. Any recs on where to stay so that we get a sense of campus. Granville Inn? We will be there only one night since we are cramming eight schools (ohio and PA) in three days.

Buxton Inn is in town …ghosts here!!; Fraley House B&B if you want the best breakfast …great folks, but a few miles outta town…I’d stay IN granVegas on visit #1 …; Granville Inn is good too…in town …Very cool!

Visit Whit’s at least 2X!. ;)

Give the schools you THINK are your higher prefs, higher pref and timing. We made the same misstake you are… …

But God’s good, and He worked it out that ours ended up where she belonged.

Happy, blessed Easter …

Are you going for accepted student visits or is your son a HS junior?
I would second the notion that 8 schools in 3 days is too many in either case unless you are just doing drive bys.
We went in the summer on a mega trip through OH, NY, MA and Conn. 10 schools, 5 days.
I wouldn’t reccommend it. DU was the first one we stopped at and made a pretty good impression on us. I often wonder if that was because we were “fresh” in the process.
It wasn’t my son’s overall 1st choice but it ended up on top…
As to the original question, the Granville Inn is quite lovely and gives you the opportunity to walk to and from campus which gives you the feel of the place much more so than driving everywhere.

dffmom, we bid on Priceline for the Newark area. We were placed in the Marriott Courtyard in Newark.

We have stayed at the Fraley B&B and at the Cherry Valley Inn. Neither of these places is within walking distance, but both are pretty quiet.

ddmom …IF you’re looking for flea-bag cheap, we’re familiar w/ what I deem a great one …and my wife would describe otherwise. PM me if you like cheap fleas. ;)

But you do need either a Mack cab or Peter-bilt to stay there …and commute to campus from Heath.

Glad you are staying overnight. Visit campus in the dark – really pretty at that time too! Funny we started our jr yr tour at DU, too – and it obviously ended up in first place :)

If you don’t do the Granville Inn or other B&B, the Marriott in Newark seems to be popular with families, prob bc it’s close and standard fare. We love to drive the back road into GranVegas, such a picturesque village!

Not sure how long you have to stay, but we love to eat dinner at Delmar – great atmosphere with casual but really good food. Located at corner one block off Main St, close to campus. Lots of DU folks there. Also Brews on the main drag is very popular place for burgers, wings, etc. Near Whit’s! Personally, I’m also a HUGE fan of Victoria’s gelato!

For Big Red/Parent’s Weekend, I ended up staying at the America’s Best Value Inn, which, if you book online on their corporate site, is really cheap. Of course it’s a bit far on the strip in Heath but, for as much time as I spent in the room, it was fine. Plain as could be, but clean. I guess lots of construction project crews stay there…It was a bit noisy one night and I called the front desk. They immediately responded and no more problem. The next morning the owner asked me if I was OK with the response, etc. Very nice gentleman. It wouldn’t be my first choice but I would stay there again…With the $ saved, I took my son out for a nice dinner at the Granville Inn!

Depending on your timing, Sunday brunch at the Buxton Inn is quite good. Ditto Esquette’s thoughts about Delmar!

Hi all. Found Courtyard by Marriott in the Newark/Granville area. It was clean, new and a great price. Thanks for the help!

And what did you and your son think of DU? Just curious…
