Visiting Emerson

Hi All! D and I will be visiting Emerson at the beginning of April. We'll set up the official tour and information center, but since we've never been to Boston I'm hoping for some suggestions on "don't miss" things to do, places to eat and where we should stay. We'll be in town for a total of about 24 hours. Thanks in advance!

For Boston prices, it is reasonable. If you want to spend a little more (or a lot more) the Omni Parker House on Tremont is nice. Both these hotels are an easy walk to Emerson. The Parker House is a just a few minutes walk. What to do? April is walking time in Boston. Either of these hotels is very near Quincy Market and the waterfront. Only there for 24 hours, I would just wander around the area you are staying. I’d go for a walk down Charles St (Beacon Hill) to the Commons. Cross the Commons and head down to Quincy Market and the waterfront. You can then pick up the Harbor Walk at the waterfront and visit the Insitiute of Contempory Art on the way. Being April the Bank of America Pavilion may have started concerts. This is also on the waterfront past the ICA. Eating? Numerous choices. If you are into history, the Freedom Trail is right where you are staying. Easy walks to the Old North Church and USS Constitution among many other stops including some right next doors to the Omni House. A couple of famous burial grounds and the Old South Church are right there next to the Omni House. Enjoy. Emerson is located in the heart of Boston and a great place to explore.

We stayed at Holiday Inn on Cambridge when we went for Emerson audition because it was the best deal. Just be aware: if you are only there for 24 hours and want to have access to the room, the check-in time is VERY LATE -4pm I think. We arrived on a very early flight and left our bags at the desk. They said we might be able to get a room by 2pm so we walked and came back (it was cold). No room yet. Waited in the looby at least an hour (others waiting). A couple strolled in and got registered for the same room type and # of nights while we were still waiting… so I went up and, a little sheepishly, they yes, they could give us a room now. We had prepaid.
There was a very loud (as in screaming and doors slamming) party around 1am in our hallway which the manager finally broke up…but that did not stop them from knocking on our door early (at least 3 hours before checkout) to try to clean.
Just a warning. At least the audition went well!
