I am taking a trip to Emory in a couple days and I have a tour and information session scheduled. I also have a business school tour scheduled. I contacted a dean and she said I could sit in on a class as well.

Is there anything else I should do while I'm down there (I'm from PA, so I won't be back for a while for a second trip)

I have not been to atlanta since i was like 4 (so I cnt remember anything really), but I heard this is an important place to visit (it has nothing to do with emory though lol)

I would also try to appraoch students and ask them what they think about emory, try eating where the students eat and all that stuff. Try to find some clubs ull be interested in joining and see how they are run.

It sounds like you kind of have Emory covered, so I suppose you could do the most touristy things possible (World of Coke, GA Aquarium, CNN Center --though I must admit, I still enjoy CNN). Depending on how soon "soon" is, you could got to opening day for the Braves (next Monday, wooo!!). As far as dining goes, check creativeloafing.com, great reviews.

Please don't go to Underground... even by tourist's standards its fairly crappy. Picture an incredibly small mall --now place it under a foot of concrete and there you have it.

And fair warning to visitors, Atlanta's public transportation(MARTA) is not very comprehensive (to put it nicely). Don't rely too heavily on it.

haha thanks everyone -- I definitely want to check it around Atlanta as well as the campus. I have been there a couple years ago, but it will be a different visiting situation, as I will be looking at it as a possible home for the next couple years of my life.
I tried to get as much of the campus covered by arranging tours and such, I was just wondering if there was anything I couldn't do on a tour that I should in my free time.
Thanks again

If the tour is anything like the open campus or whatever it was that I attended in fall, you should be fine. I thought it was pretty comprehensive --and I didn't even get to sit in on a class.

I actually just came back from the tour the day before last and I thought it was great. One thing I would add is that you are not able to go to the Clairmont campus (the upperclassmen campus) on the tour and I heard it was really pretty so I would visit that if I were you.

Atlanta resident here. There is a lot to do in Atlanta. Try AccessAtlanta.com :: Your Ticket to Atlanta Entertainment for latest events. I wholly agree with the recommendation to skip Underground. The aquarium is a MUST and you can get there with no problem, despite the continued cleanup from the aftermath of the tornado 2 weeks ago. The world of Coke is right next door to the Aquarium, and right by the Olympic park, CNNCenter, the Omni, etc. Its a good area to check out. Be aware that they are repaving the connector (75/85) in town on the weekends, so traffic onthe highway will be a challenge on weekends for a while. That would not affect you coming into town from Emory, just possibly coming up from the airport.

Thanks everyone so much. I'm really excited to go down. I'm in the end of my junior year now, and I really want the Emory admissions staff to know that I am really interested in the school. Should I plan multiple visits to show this?
thanks again

The most important thing you can do, after your upcoming visit, is keep your grades up, pursue your favorite EC's with passion, and write a great application. If Emory recommends an interview, you can either do that on campus, or arrange to have an interview with an Emory local alum or with an Emory admissions rep who comes to your city. Also, get the names and email addresses of your tour guide and of the Admissions rep who does your information session. Send them both thank you emials when you get home, and keep in touch with them, as well as with your regional Emory rep, periodically over the next year.

erzepnicki: As you will probably hear in your info session down at Emory, demonstrated interest is "a box that needs to be checked off" on your app when it is reviewed.....In the same breath, the admissions person said "you can officially be assured that your box is officially checked off if you are sitting in this room"...."it is not cumulative....once is enough..."..and I quote, "that can be fulfilled in any number of single ways: ordering DVD, attending local admissions session, visiting campus....multiple inputs do not make the little box more important the all the other little boxes on the app"

Unlike other schools that SAY that demonstrated interest is crucial and then admits people who haven't demonstrated ANY, I think you can safely say that Emory definitely keeps track.....and acts upon it......

Yea you log onto it. They post their decisions, financial aid awards, and you can pay deposits on it. Im sure you use it a lot more when you actually attend the school like maybe pick out your classes and stuff like that.
