Hey guys!
I'm a junior and I'm going to look at Emory in a few weeks. Since most people in this thread go there or have already applied there I'm assuming that a bunch of you have already visited. I've scheduled the tour and the information session but is there anything else anyone recommends doing while I'm there? Also I know Atlanta's a really cool city but I don't live close by and I've never been there before so is there anything I should make sure to do while I'm there? Thanks!!

When are you taking the tour?

february 15th

D and I visited Emory almost a year ago. We attended an info session and went on a campus tour, as well as having lunch on campus. One additional thing that D did, that you might want to consider if you have time that day, was that she sat in on a class during the day that we visited. If you’re interested, contact the Admissions offlice, as a first step to see what classes would be available that day. Enjoy your visit–the campus is gorgeous.

What major are you interested in?

I recommend the aquarium.

Six Flags.

Yes, I would go to Six Flags The Georgia Aquarium is like the biggest but it will be rather out of your way.

Sitting in a class is actually a good idea, but make a good decision on the class itself. It’s a nice campus that always tears itself apart to build newer, nicer ones.

I enjoyed the CNN tour. Lots of great restaurants and if you are interested in sports, catch an NBA game. We have also visited the High museum on visits, shopped at Lennox, watched a bball game at Georgia Tech, and explored the different parts of Atlanta. If you like to run/walk/bike, there is a great trail - Peachtree trail I believe it is called. All said, spend enough time on campus so you get a good feel for it. There are great private collections in the library, amazing athletic facilities that you can probably figure out how to get access, classes, performances, etc. Hang out and get a chance to observe the students. My D is graduating and she has loved every minute of her experience, and I have loved visiting as often as I can. Some visits when I was working I spent the day in the library and got a great feel for the student body. Enjoy.

agree with her^^ lots of great restaurants. definitely check out some restaurants so that if you do go to emory, you know a couple of nice places to eat off campus. lenox is a fun way to spend an afternoon. and emory campus is fantastic. there’s a park where the president of emory lives that’s pretty nice to just walk around. i highly recommend eating at the duc to acquaint yourself with the food.

Midtown probably has the best restaurants. It’s a 10-20 minute drive from Emory (may take a lot longer if you get lost considering atlanta streets are confusing as hell).

There’s tons of things to do in Atlanta that my weekends are usually packed. I’m a freshman and I’m not even close to finishing exploring the city.

Six Flags will NOT be open on February 15th. I believe it opens some time in March for weekends, only.

The Aquarium, Fernbank Science Center, CNN Center, the World of Coke would be a few suggestions. Also, Stone Mountain is not that far away.

And if you want amazing Southern food and an “interesting” place, try the Flying Biscuit for brunch and do NOT miss the cheese grits!!! :)

If you want to get a feel for what it would be like at Emory then you need to do what Emory students do

Check out the frequented sections of Atlanta (Virginia Highlands, Little Five Points, Buckhead (lenox mall), Midtown).

Sit in on at least one class (and ask for suggestions based on major)

-I’d also recommend checking out the night life, but that could be more difficult if you do not know anyone on campus and are female.

These things matter more than whether or not you enjoy the Coke museum or the local amusement park. I found the tours to be very generic across almost every school I visited, so make sure you are not just relying on that to get a feel for campus.

The original poster hasn’t replied to this in over 2 weeks. :/
