visiting F&M

Any suggestion on good hotel, walking distance to campus if possible, and any other things to see or do while in Lancaster visiting the school?

for places to stay, eat, and links to local tourist information.

I do not know of any places to stay within walking distance but, as I am an alum from 30 years ago my information is not very current, there may be. Contact the admissions office. I believe you can probably stay downtown which is about a 20-25 minute walk from F&M and there may be shuttles during the school year.

While you are there you could visit the Amish areas, the various outlet malls if you are into shopping, go to Gettysburg depending on what direction you are coming in from, check out the North Museum which is a small but fun science museum on campus, see classical concert this summer

etc.

During the school year check out the F&M calendar. There is also a minor league baseball stadium just down the road and events in the city of Lancaster.

Hope you have a good trip. I last visited Lancaster on tours with my children 5-6 years ago and we had lots of fun.

There is a very nice hotel called the lancaster arts hotel right near campus-we stayed there for the frehsman preorientiaton (called beginnings) my son is an incomign freshman. When we visited we syed at a enarby courtyard marrito (nubme of hotels in short driving distance). also a B and B.
As to dining small city but were many options-As ilike microbreweries we went with my son (and he drove and I drank) to teh Iron Hill Brewery I think it was called across the way from the campus-food was very good!

We ate at the Iron Hill Brewery during our visit to F&M and we agree it was very good. Definitely will go again. We did not stay near campus. Even though, it was a gray and cold day, S2 says he liked the campus. The area has a small city feel and you can walk to stores and restaurants but there is definitely a traditional campus atmosphere - the best of both worlds if that is what you are looking for.

I DO NOT recommend the Cork Factory Hotel, a very stylish new hotel renovated from a former cork factory. While lovely, it was obviously renovated with no concern for sound abatement and is super noisy. Impossible to sleep. The Marriott downtown is great for dining out, shopping, etc.

WE stayed at the LAH it was a lovely hotel, although the corridors were very cold, we just turned up the heat. They give a nice breakfast in “the corner”. We could have walked but for the snow.

Just returned from 2 nights at the Lancaster Arts Hotel whilst visiting F&M. Fun place to stay and very close to campus. They give a discount if you say you’re visiting F&M. There are several restaurants right across the parking lot and a few more within a couple of blocks, not to mention the many in the center of townand the hotel’s restaurant which though a bit more pricey, is excellent. For a fun outing in town, I can recommend the redrose segway tours; my D and I had a blast!
