We will be visiting FSU this week for the first time. We are driving up from Orlando on Wednesday morning (after visiting UCF on Tuesday) intending to be at FSU in time to park, catch a bite to eat and get to the 2 PM information session/3 PM tour. Where should we go for a bite to eat on campus (we will only have about 45 - 55 min)? After our tour at 4 PM, what else should we explore on our own? Any other tips? We are staying at a local hotel overnite before the 7 hour drive home on Thursday (thank you Parent2Noles for the hotel advice on a previous thread).

You're welcome. :)

I'd suggest one of the campus dining facilities. You may as well get a sample of the food available on campus, since you might have to buy a meal plan.

Here's the site: http://www.campusdish.com/en-us/CSS/FloridaState

Thank you, that is a good idea. Do you have any ideas for supper...someplace with good food, informal dress, and between/or around FSU and the Doubletree Hotel???

I'd also suggest comfortable shoes for walking, since you'll likely have to park at University Center, near the Visitor's Office. Shorts and light clothing would be a must, since summer weather is here...

May want to carry a backpack for all the stuff you'll pick up, plus some bottled water.

Personal favorite of mine - check out the FSU Computer Store in the Union.

If you want to see a dorm from a student's perspective maybe one of my daughters can help...please PM if you're interested.

Don't forget that Admissions is in University Center, too - around on the north side closest to the baseball stadium. Could be a good time to check in and get a read on admissions details...I'd call or email for appt...

By the way - Admissions is right acroos from the FSU Film School. Not uncommon to see students in and out of there at all hours.

Food ideas...

Very student-ish: Momo's Pizza off of Tennessee Street, closest to west main campus. Cold Stone Creamery real close to Momo's. Sweet Shop - off of Jefferson, near east campus (the older section - close to Gilchrist, Landis, Broward, Bryan, Reynolds and Jennie Murphree dorms)

Long-time student favorites:
Mom and Dads Italian Restaurant off of Apalachee Parkway (US 27) east of town.
Jim and Milt's BBQ (off Pensacola Street)

Outback Steak House - near I-10 and Thomasville Road.
Olive Garden Italian - off of Apalachee Parkway

Some good restaurants off of North Monroe... a couple of real good Mexican restaurants.

Breakfast/Lunch - Jim and Milts also The Lunch Box (little student-ish dive great food, though at Magnolia and Mahan/Tennessee, east of Monroe

After hours - explore campus on your own, walk around downtown Tallahassee - including the Capitol Buildings. Lots of historic stuff.

Shopping - Governor's Square Mall, off of Apalachee Parkway.

Really lots of things to do, just have to focus on what you want.

Hi, as I remember you booked the van tour, so given the weather we had that should be a welcome alternative to walking in the heat.

Stop by the nole shop or whatever they call it so you can grab whatever clothing item or hat that you want.

We drove around and saw many of the Government buildings that are located nearby.

To eat we I think just went to a Appleby's, however there are eating places as far as the eye can see.

Steve and Barrys is the least expensive place to get college logo clothes. They even have UCF items in the Orlando Festival Bay location RAY!

^ Hey UCF items. We actually have gone to a Steve and Barry's your correct they do have college stuff at much reduced prices.

For any other UCF folks around the Knight's Corner Bookstore appears to be the alternative to the UCF bookstore.

I did buy a FSU hat at the Noles bookstore and wear it everywhere. I really like the team. Maybe Bobby will come down to Orlando and play a game and I can see you all in the stands!

Had a wonderful visit at FSU! I really got some muscles yesterday, walking around the campus. Had a really nice time. Met with parent2noles younger daughter. She was so sweet to us. She showed us around the school a bit, showed us her dorm (Ragan's...very nice) and the Union. The brand new freshman suite style dorms (Wildwood and Degraff) look finished and ready for occupancy and they are beautiful on the outside. Everyone (from admissions to the students) at FSU advised us to apply early and apply for housing as soon as you are admitted. My daughter will start working on her essays next week (after she recoups from her wisdom teeth extractions!). Thank you everyone here for your suggestions. We loved our southern style barbeque lunch at Jim and Milts on Pensacola St. I will add a nice place to the list to have (upscale) dinner in town. It was called Atlantic 288 (on Adams St.) and had a lovely atmosphere and delicious food (and was only a block away from the doubletree hotel!).

Cool!

Jim and Milt's also has a decent breakfast...whoops, I see I already wrote about that.

Thanks for the info seiclan. DD will be at FSU for a short summer program in about a week. She will be staying for 4 days, then I will drive back to pick her up and we will take the tour and meet with admissions. P2N, Hege will be away for 3 weeks, but she sent me a nice email about meeting with another of the admissions staff while we are there. I'll bring good walking shoes. Hopefully, D will have a little familiarity with the campus by then.
