visiting FSU

What is the best airport to fly into when I visit FSU? Also where should I stay? I dont need anything fancy..just clean, cheap and safe

thanks

We live in WNY, and my daughter attends FSU~2nd year. She flys out of Buffalo, and into the Tallahassee airport. You can also fly into Jacksonville, or Orlando, and take the Greyhound bus to FSU.

Or Tampa. Or St. Petersburg. Or Sarasota.

I’d suggest flying into TLH.

I rode the Greyhound bus home once from Tallahassee and it wasn’t that bad. It was a slow ride though and an interesting ride down the backroads. The bus made a stop in one little town on the way down at a convenience store and picked up a cowboy with some groceries. The bus dropped him off at the gates to a ranch about 20 miles down the road. A little old lady from New York sitting next to me was a little ticked off…she remarked in all seriousness that Greyhound had told her in NYC that she was going on: “the express” to Miami from NYC!

Has anyone flown into Panama City airport? Trying to use some miles I have on Southwest.

Flying into PC would likely be fine, but ensure you can finish the last 100 miles into Tallahassee (by car or bus for example).

when I was at parents weekend once a couple had flown into Panama City. Said it was about a 2 hour drive but the highway is not crowded and they thought it was good way to come. Would definitely look into that. Otherwise, Jacksonville is not a bad drive to Tallahasee. I have stayed at the Comfort Inn on 1026 Apalachee Pkwy. and it’s pretty nice for a less expensive hotel–rooms have been updated with flat screens and you get a breakfast. but if you’re coming on a non-game weekend you might be able to get a nicer hotel. We got a good last minute rate on Aloft once when FSU was playing away game Also used priceline once and got a killer deal on what ended up being the Doubletree.

Think Southwest into Panama City is the best bet from San Diego. Other airlines are more expensive and have 2 stops. I cant wait to visit FSU but I have to wait to see if I am going to get any merit aid…cant afford OOS tuition without some help

If you can take part in the First Year Abroad program you will get the rest of your semesters at in-state rates.

FSUDAD1

Do many OOS students do this? I would prefer to spend my first year on campus so I can meet people/make friends and have the FSU experience. Do you have to do it for an entire year

Yes, quite a few do. My son did his second semester abroad this past Spring. Upon return home he wished he had signed up for the entire year. He made many good friends and is still close with them this semester back on campus.

It is required to do the entire first year to qualify for the in-state tuition bonus. More info can be found here:

…when we go down to visit, we fly Southwest into Panama City and rent a car; but when D comes home to visit, she can not fly out of PC because it’s very hard to get to FSU~you have to be 21 to rent a car, and there is not a bus available. We have to pay the high airfare, and fly her directly into Tally.

Also, if you apply and get accetped to FSU early{December), chances are a lot better to get an OOS tutition waiver~my daughter was accepted last year in December, and was able to get the waiver, and the Freshman Scholarship. Took a little dent out of out-of-state tuitition!

mdkskj…thank you for the information… I am hoping to get the OOS tuition waiver and the Freshman scholarship. I have a 32 ACT and a 4.2 GPA so I am keeping my fingers crossed
