Visiting GW soon... anything we "must see"?

We have a tour & information session scheduled next month. Does anyone have suggestions on things we should be sure not to miss? We'll only have half a day because we're visiting American University on the same day. Thanks!

the national mall? the white house? the govt buildings? the elliott school is pretty cool. idk the whole campus is just awesome in my opinion its in the city and its got great city culture.

I'm fond of wandering around and exploring the city as opposed to visiting specific tourist attractions, especially if the weather stays as nice as it's been lately. Georgetown is great for that; stop by [url="<a href="http://www.dolcezzagelato.com/%22%5DDolcezza%5B/url">http://www.dolcezzagelato.com/"]Dolcezza[/url</a>] for ice cream if you have the chance (seriously, it's the best ever -- I'll miss it in college).

Thanks... ^^ I mean anything in particular at the school we should see. We'll definitely spend another day or two exploring the city itself. Can't wait!

On my Foggy Bottom tour I was impressed with the Elliot School - but then again I would be applying as an IR major so I was interested in seeing it to begin with. It's also right across the street from the State Dept. which is pretty cool.

OK, we'll be sure to see the Elliot School while we are there!

Even though it may not sound appealing, take the tour of GW's Mount Vernon campus. They're offered late in the day - we did ours the day before we did the info session and the Foggy Bottom tour - you can do it any time that it fits in.

You can meet the tour guide at Mount Vernon campus but it is easy to just catch the shuttle by the admissions office on the main Foggy Bottom campus a bit before your tour. If you get there too early, you can just go into the Mount Vernon campus cafeteria and get a cookie or something.

This tour doesn't take long and its quite nice. The Mount Vernon campus was just better than expected, more fun than expected, closer than expected. The shuttle ride there was pleasant - neat views of the river and Georgetown and neighborhoods, I recall.

Thank you, JJG, for the suggestion. I went ahead and scheduled a late-in-the-day tour at Mt. Vernon for the day before our other tour (like you did). We were planning to be in the city that afternoon, anyway.

How long does it take on the shuttle to get from Foggy Bottom to Mt. Vernon?

I think it took us about 10 minutes to get there and 15 minutes to get back, but at the time of year when we did it I think the tour was at 3:45 - now I think it is at 4:45 so there might be more traffic.

I'm sure you'll do this anyway, but check out Kogan Plaza. The flowers are beautiful, and it's a really peaceful oasis.

Also, you may want to check out the Foggy Bottom metro, so you get sense of where it is, and how easily you navigate the District.

i love kogan...perfect combo of green campus and city.

Check out the SMPA (School of Media and Public Affairs) building if you get a chance too....especially if you're interested in one of those majors.

Thanks to all of you!

duques hall (the new business school) is one of the nicest buildinds i've ever been in. it's on 22nd street, in between H and G streets.
