Visiting IU. What should I do?

I'm a DA freshman finance major at IU. I'm visiting next week (on tuesday) and was wondering what else, besides the tour, I should do?

Check out the downtown area, and also get the “lay of the land” in terms of where shopping, groceries, etc. are available.

Check out the downtown area. Kirkwood is pretty much a great bet all the way down to Walnut. There’s bars, restaurants, and lots of shopping. 4th street has some great restaurants as well. Check out the College Mall area on E. 3rd - that’s where Target, Best Buy, and a lot of other oft-visited stores are located. If you’re interested in going Greek, a drive down N. Jordan, the Jordan Extension, and 3rd St. would be fun.

If you are into sports, try to make it over to see Assembly Hall, the Basketball Development Center and Memorial Stadium/Varsity Club. The athletic facilities are very impressive. The university has done an awesome job in paying tribute to their past athletes…the photo gallery is really nicely done. Have a great visit!

Eat at a restaurant on 4th restaurant. Take advantage of the ethnic restaurants here! Too many people just disregard them (like my roommate). He actually refuses to eat on 4th street. :(

Check out the older parts of campus, with Dunn’s Woods, the Rose Well House, and Wylie Hall and Owen Hall, which are two of the oldest buildings on campus. There’s also a Greek walkway with plaques for every single fraternity/sorority ever to exist at IU along with its founding year. It’s a really serene and beautiful part of campus. Also go down to the arboretum; since the trees are blooming again and the grass is green it looks absolutely amazing right now. Go inside a classroom building for fun, just to see what it’s like (they don’t do this on the tour). Eat at The Bistro at Read because their sandwiches are delicious. Definitely check out downtown Bloomington and eat at a restaurant like others have suggested, and then go to Baked on 3rd street and get cookies custom-made to your specifications for dessert.

So I just realized that some of these things, like the older parts of campus, they’ll probably show you on the tour… but it would also be lots of fun to check them out for yourself more in-depth.
