I have had Lehigh as a top/top 2 choice ever since early in Junior year when I had an interaction with an admissions person at a college fair in Rochester, NY. I have wanted to visit for a long period of time, but I could never really schedule it as my parents were not very flexible in terms of allowing me/going with me to visit.

I know Lehigh has a reputation of rejecting people who lack demonstrated interest, as is clearly seen in not only the waitlist thread from last year, but many other places.

I am not saying that I only want to visit Lehigh to increase my chances of being accepted, I am genuinely interested in the campus and the college, but I can't say that the lack of a visit in terms of my admissions chances doesn't worry me. Here it is in December, and the application deadline is January 1st (and the college wants to know in their supplement about the visit or lack thereof), and I still haven't gotten a chance.

Problem: The admissions office is closed through the entirety of December in terms of tours/information sessions/class sit ins. There is no longer an opportunity to visit until after the application is due.

So my primary questions: Would visiting AFTER I turn in my application have the same effect as having visited before I turned in my application, in terms of chance of acceptance? Also, if the visit cannot happen, how else can I truly demonstrate a proper amount of interest and convey to the school that I really am interested in learning more and/or attending. It is NOT a safety or anything close to a safety for me.

It will most likely not have the desired effect of showing interest because when they get your application they're going to pull up your file and they won't see any campus visits so they might think you are lacking in that category. If you visit after you apply they most likely wouldn't have it on file so its kinda a double edged sword.

Its not easy to think of a way to show interest besides that since ED and EA are over with, but maybe you could call up admissions and ask if you could interview or anything. This I am unsure about so don't trust me, but it never hurts to just ask 'em!

Are you sure it wouldn't go on file? I don't really know who to ask... I can't rightfully ask a Lehigh Admissions person or they will think I am just interested in the admissions chance and not the college itself. I'll email my counselor, but I'm not sure of what to do.

I really think Lehigh is my first choice. I won't know until I visit all of my colleges, but it sparked my eye from the beginning, and I really like the aspects that I already know about it.

I would recommend calling to speak to the rep you have already me, explaining that your parents have a tight schedule and that you haven't had a chance to visit but would like to do so AND schedule an interview in January (or whenever you can get there).

ps, of course it will go in the file--the acceptances are made over the spring, so in some ways the impression you make during your visit will be fresher than those who visited during the junior year/summer.

i would email lehigh admissions and tell them of your interest and how you weren't able to visit because of ..... whatever the reason was.

contacting admissions and even asking questions is demonstrated interest. whenever i'm uncertain about anything about a school i always send an email and the admissions reps always seem to be happy to answer all my questions.

You know what? It really stinks but Lehigh has this "issue" with visiting if you are within a 4 hour car ride....I personally think it's ridiculous, but it is what it is......that being said, I agree with the posters who have advised you to call admissions, find your local rep, tell them your situation and visit WHENEVER you can....I do disagree that it won't matter; January should be fine......good luck!

How do I get the email address for my area's representative? I want to check and make sure there is nothing I can do in December, and if not, schedule for January now.

I really want to enter the CS and Business program, but that is even more competitive. It is tempting to just go ED to Lehigh, but I am worried about how the financial aid will come out and you can never know for sure if you want to be somewhere for four years unless you've been there :p

Yes, and be very careful about FA at Lehigh....we have a very close friend now a senior whose FA package freshman year was severely cut in yr 2, 3, and 4 for no reason......

Well, I am in that automatic no loan area, so how expensive can it really get? My EFC is somewhere around 1000-1500 dollars, and if they have a no loan policy for me, what could I possibly have to pay, besides maybe doing a work study?

I just mean in general. Every college I have considered seems to have a no student loan policy below a certain family income level.

If I guaranteed not to have student loans, what else could I be expected to contribute besides a work study, the expected family contribution, etc?
