A friend’s daughter had decided against LSU (she was accepted but leaning toward TCU) until they happened to drive thru the campus in March (on way from NO to Houston). My friend said the azaleas were blooming and the campus looked gorgeous and her daughter instantly changed her mind! Both parents are LSU grads - so they weren’t going to push the daughter but were happy with the decision.

Uh, I’m pretty sure Alabama > Auburn and LSU. Just from rankings

Regarding the prestige factor between Auburn and Alabama. Alabama does rank slightly higher than Auburn in the USNWR rankings, BUT a lot of factors beyond quality of education go into those rankings. It really depends on what area of study you are considering. Both schools have their strong and weak areas.
I am an Auburn alum (graduated with a degree in business administration), on paper Alabama’s b-school is probably stronger at the undergraduate level, though Auburn has begun a campaign to increase visibility of that program nationwide. Other than business, I think Auburn has stronger programs nearly across the board.
I will say this. My Auburn degree has served me well. I got a good job out of school, was admitted to Vanderbilt’s Owen School of Management for my MBA and am beginning a second Master’s degree at Harvard this Fall.
Also, I have found that the Auburn name seems to have a bit more cache than Alabama when you get outside of the Southeast.
Hope this info helps. WAR EAGLE!
