We like to visit the Allentown Farmers Market (17th steet and Chew). Its very close to the campus. Lots of fresh fruit, bread etc. Opens Friday and Saturday at 8am. Can’t think of a good breakfest place…we always eat at our hotel (Wingate Wyndam).

I would second the farmer’s market idea. I never managed to be there when it was open until this past summer, and would go back in a heartbeat. It’s a good place to visit, if only for prospective students to realize what’s available to them every weekend… a quite unique experience. If you’re around for lunch/dinner, try out the Allentown Brew Works, too.

I hope you have a great weekend. I’m heading into Allentown in two days, for a quick trip - just staying Thursday night. My daughter’s one-act play will be presented as part of the New Voices program, and since she’s in London, yours truly is going to record it for her. I will probably have time to hit up the Farmer’s Market myself on Friday morning before I head back to the airport.

If you feel like going a little further afield, Billy’s Downtown Diner in Bethlehem is our fave breakfast place in the area. They even serve green eggs and ham!

My D eats at Trivet quite often. Of the chrome diners in the area it is the best, but the Farmer’s Market offers an experience that is unique. And it is close enough for students to walk over.

We also stay at the Wingate and just eat there. But we have heard many good things about the Farmer’s Market from our son and will have to try that. We also recommend the Allentown Brew Pub. Good food, good beer. For the parents, of course!

Thanks all; had a great trip!!
teri: given that my older one is at Newhouse, how funny would it be if D2 ended up at the 'Berg…??..Allentown is quite nice; doesn’t feel like the school is in the “middle of nowhere” at all

For those of you who haven’t visited in awhile, Promenade Shops at Saucon are very nice…

wow rodney… that would be a coincidence! You can related to my payment history!

How did your D like the 'Berg?
I guess I didn’t realize the magnitude of construction going on as they are renovating the student union; hope that didn’t put you off. I was told it would be ready by next fall, though, so my D can enjoy the new facility her senior year.

There is a great restaurant at The Promenade Shops at Saucon, called Melt. We took our D there for her 21st birthday. They sure know how to mix a cocktail!
