Visiting next week

We will be visiting Caltech for sure on Monday 2/22 and maybe on the morning of Tuesday 2/23 and maybe the **previous **weekend. Are there any must-dos other than a Caltech-in-a-day visit for my son, which is already scheduled, and the tour and info session for me, which is also already scheduled? Caltech is one of the favorites, so we really want to check it out.

I might hang out in the library rather than bring my own computer on the airplane - is the library ok for non-students? Is it too crowded? Are there enough computers?

Where's a good cheap-but-better-than-fast-food place to eat in Pasadena?

Thanks!

Eat at the student center, they have a nice cafeteria style lunch. I LOVED my visit a month ago, the campus is beautiful

If you’d like to use a computer, I would suggest bringing your own. We have free wifi on campus (called Caltech Guest), but to use the library computers you have to have a Caltech username and password.

For food within easy walking distance, I’d recommend checking out the places on Lake Avenue. There’s a Noah’s Bagels and a place called Corner Bakery (also a chain, I think, but not as widespread?), and quite a few others…you can just walk up and down Lake until you find a restaurant that looks good. : )

I thought the library (SFL) computers had a guest login…

Make sure to talk to students!

You can also try looking for restaurants along Colorado Blvd. There’s a great Thai place up on the second floor of a building at Mentor & Colorado. Lunch is $6.50 a person (comes with large entree, soup or salad, and spring roll). Burger Continental near Lake & California is also pretty good if you like Mediterranean and don’t mind your food filled with delicious oil and cheese.

I’d say a must-do is taking the elevator in Millikan Library to the top floor and having enjoying the view of Pasadena. If it’s a clear day you get a beautiful mountain vista and should have no problem seeing Mt. Wilson, home of an observatory and a ton of tv/radio towers that serve the area. Heck, if it cools off this week there might even still be some snow on Mt. Baldy off a little ways to the east!
