Visiting NYU in 2 Weeks!!

Far from Kennedy?
Im going on a Sunday and there are no tours, is the self guided tour worth it, or should i just improvise??

What should i look for??? ny advice would be GRREAAT!

My recommendation, but it isn't for everyone. If you're okay with it. Go on myspace and look up a student(s) from NYU, specifically someone in your intended major if you can. Then, message them with a friendly letter saying hey...you seem like a really cool person, blah blah, and I'm really interested in NYU, and specifically your program of study, and was wondering if you could take me on a campus tour from the student's perspective of the school, and answer a few questions i have before I decide if NYU is right for me. Granted, a bunch of kids go home during the summer, but then again, a whole lot of other kids stay in NYC for summer courses or internships. I did it this way, and it turned out great. I made a new friend, and I got more out of my friend's guided tour of NYU then I did on the standard campus tour. But, to be on the safe side, have someone else (preferably a parent) come with you when you meet up with your improvised tour guide just in case.

NYU is not close at all to JFK, so I would either take a cab(expensive) or take the A train to W 4th St(right where NYU is), but this will take a while. If you are only going to be there one day, you are not going to get much out of it if you are coming only to see NYU. A guided tour is pretty much the only way to tour, because otherwise you will just be looking at random buildings and washington square park.

how far away is it on train? cab?

Flat fare from JFK to Manhattan is $45 plus tolls and tip.

i went on a guided tour in february, and it is essential. otherwise, just as Harlem said, it's you and big ass buildings with purple flags. winging it won't really do much, so try to find someone like andy suggested.

It depends, by subway you should get there within an hour. With a cab, it could be 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic.

I'm an NYU student and I can give a quick tour (like 10~15 minutes) during my work break if anyone is interested...

But not on Sundays!

I'm going on tuesday morning on the 27th!!!!!! And btw I suggest an airport shuttle if you're going to fly into JFK. For $15 or so, they'll take you to Grand Central, where you can catch a subway or cab to NYU.

Anyway I found a great fare thru expedia.com from San Francisco. Oh well, at least I'm not visiting right after a 5 hour overnight flight.

bump bump!!!!

What else do you want to know?
