So I was invited to Sunday at the Square.. and while I'm ecstatic and would love to be there, I live in California and don't have spring break until April 8. I do really want to visit, however.

Should I just get a hotel room in NYC and take a tour of the school? Or are there any other admit weekends or something of the sort?

Is it even necessary to visit?

I'm probably going to call NYU to ask them these questions too.. do I call the number on the SatS invite, or should I call the Admissions office, or are these the same number? Does anyone know office hours?

if you can go to the April 1st sunday at the square, go. If you can't make sure you visit before you visit. No one can explain the experience of living in NYC and being on NYU's campus. You have to experience it and decide for yourself if the big city life is right for you.

I'm in the same situation... kind of. I was invited to Sunday at the Square, but I was also invitied to Fordham's thing. They're on two different weekends, and I obviously can't afford to fly out to both.

If I was in your situation, I would try to go to Sunday at the Square, rather than just the tour. If not, the tour will probably be fine.

You don't miss out on any opportunities by not going to Sunday at the Square, do you?

NYU is huge, concrete, integrated into the city, mixed in with offices, restaurants, socialites, hobos. There is no defined campus. No greenery. It is definitely a school to visit before making a decision. There are students who love it and cannot imagine being anywhere else; and there are some who are dreadfully unhappy.

I think its necessary to visit any school that you're considering - this will be your HOME for the next 4 years! You can't just make a decision sight unseen!

I've been to NYC many times before and I've visted NYU specifically once. I really really liked it. I did not, however, visit Fordham (I'd be going to the Lincoln Center Campus). No matter when I go back, I will make sure to visit Fordham and once again visit NYU. My problem is deciding whether I want to go to NYU's Sunday at the Square or Fordham's student weekend. I'd prefer NYU's because it's my first choice, but Fordham will prob. give me better aid and I haven't it visited yet... I don't know what to do.

Well whether or not you go to the NYU event will not help the financial aid office in deciding how much aid to give you (at least I don't think) so just go where you prefer... and if Fordham ends up giving you more aid and you have to decide between the two, then visit it then.

I've been to the Fordham " open house tour" for Lincoln Center and I think you can get as much out of it by arranging a private tour. If this is the "group tour" you were thinking of attending, they show a boring "Rah Rah" movie, mostly about athletics and school spirit, then you visit some of the classroom areas. In my case they didn't even go to any part of the school (subject wise) I was interested in. The most worthwhile part of the tour was the dorms. Maybe you can arrange to visit on the NYU weekend. I found the NYU open house I attended earlier to be quite helpful. The entire campus is in and around the village area and having a tour was very helpful. Congrats on the invite. I, like all the other ED acceptence students, won't even be considered for any of the NYU invites because they already have our commitment to attend.
