Son and I are making a last minute visit to Pitt (Tuesday) and Carnegie Mellon (Monday) to help him make his final college decision. What should we see that might help him make up his mind? (Other choices are UW-Madison and Macalester).

get a tour at both definitely (I had the same thing last year, came down to an expensive CMU vs. a cheap Pitt). Try to look inside classrooms at both, around campus, and maybe see a dorm if you know someone. Check out food for both places. (CMU’s is very spread out vs. Pitt)

At Pitt definitely go inside Cathedral of Learning, check out Honors College (35th/36th floor). See Towers Lobbys/Panther Central Area. Maybe check out buildings that your son may have classes in next year (Chevron: Chem, Thackeray: Math, Benedum: Engineeirng/Math, Clapp: Bio, Lawrence: History/Natural Science, etc.) Talk to current freshman at both places for the school your son will be going to.

For me it came down to I liked Pitt’s campus more, and Pitt was way way way more affordable. Hope this helps though!
