Hey. I was wondering if people who are considering transferring or have now officially transferred visited schools prior to going? I mean I think it's a good idea but I have quite a few schools that I'm applying to for Fall 08 so what do you guys\gals recommend? Is there an official way going about this or what? Thanks for all the help.

You might want to wait until after acceptances and visit only those you have narrowed it down to. I think visiting is a very, very good idea - a full visit involving staying overnight and attending classes.

I think some schools take notice more than others if an applicant visits or otherwise demonstrates interest. On some application forms there will be a specific section that questions your connections with the university i.e. campus visit, brochures in the mail, alumni interview, etc, whereas other apps completely disregard your personal affinity for the school.

When I applied, I found it favorable to visit as many campuses as possible. Besides adding a potential perk to my file, the visit gave me the opportunity to get a feel for the campus, the student body, and the faculty. Every college has its own aura and personality, so a simple tour may completely alter your perspective of a school.

I didnt get accepted to every school I visited, and I was accepted to schools I wasnt able to visit, so I dont think theres necessarily a correlation between visits and acceptances, but it obviously wont hurt your prospects, and it would be an excellent chance to grasp a feel for the campus vibe.

I've been able to do quite a few visits, but that's because I'm lucky enough to live in a college-heavy area. I've found it very useful because I have been able to cross off several schools through visits, plus add a couple extras I wouldn't have considered much originally.

If I didn't live so close to the colleges, however, I would wait until acceptances came, and then make visits. It's cheaper and more realistic. I would advise doing that. It's actually what I'll be doing with two of my farther-away colleges. Interviews can easily be done over the phone or with an alumna/us, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I am thinking about transferring to Eckerd College in St Petersburg. Does anybody have any first hand info or experience with this school?
