I visited Princeton last summer, but I didn't meet any students or professors or listen in on any classes. I did see the campus and had a tour. Is it worth it to visit again this time to meet profs and admitted students? I've already decided to go to Princeton, although I am waiting to hear from Harvard which waitlisted me. If I do get off the waitlist, I will have another hard choice to make b/w these 2 schools, so should I visit now to help me decide b/w those 2 schools later if I'm admitted to both? It will cost a couple hundred dollars though to fly up there.

I can't make up my mind. With that online chat thing, I don't know if its necessary. Someone say something, please.

If you later have to face that "hard choice" it will help to have as much information as possible on which to base your decision, so I'd recommend going to visiting day ... as long as you keep in mind that on such occasions a school is putting its best foot forward, and you may not be getting a "typical" experience.

Go. That's how my D picked between Princeton and Stanford.

Princeton's campus is unrivaled

I'm flying from California to go to admit day.

Everyone has different and valid reasons for preferring one college over another. In our case, D visited the other ivies, even spent time in past residential programs at both Harvard and Stanford and really liked both places. Then D went twice last year to visit Princeton and loved it so much, it confirmed Princeton as her 1st choice.

And she can't wait to come a third time to admit day.

UCmomma, that's a lot of trips. How close do you all live to Pton to be able to go that much?

alltheway, we live far away on the west coast but occasionally you can get real cheap airline deals. It just takes some work to research and find them. We also came off-season. Last year I remember Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards had a special $89 flight from coast to coast. It was cheaper for us to fly coast to coast than to fly from Los Angeles to San Francisco! Jet Blue also has some cheap flights. Check out the airlines that go through your area. The key is to look for their promotionals that come up sporadically that are good buys.

well, I've already bought my ticket which is I think $400 or $500 roundtrip. I think these were the cheapest ones that also had good arrival times b/c I really need to listen to some classes. Plus it's not exactly off season now and I don't have time to wait for their promotionals, but thank you again for your advice.

yeah, I know what you mean. Airlines are way too expensive and it's too much time and effort to watch for their promotionals. We just happened to hit it at the right time last year that saved us lots of $$, but we aren't so fortunate for this upcoming trip either.
Summer will be the time to look for promotionals and good deals for the Fall trip to begin Princeton/Harvard.

You should go to Princeton. First, realistically the chances of being admitted to Harvard off the wait list are small. Second, it is even less likely that Harvard will admit you from the waitlist before you have to tell Princeton if you accept its offer of admission. Third, if Harvard does offer you admission, and you really want to go there, you could withdraw your acceptance to Princeton, although most on this board would ask you to think carefully about the wisdom of such a choice.

im coming to the Princeton admit weekend even thoug I got accepted ED. I'm taking an amtrak train from Harrisburg and staying with an acquaintance in her dorm room for 2 days. The Center for Jewish Life agreed to host me that weekend too. I hope I see some of u there, I would love to meet anyone coming into the class of '10.

Go Tigers!
