My D and I will be visiting next week. I would like a restaurant recommendation. Nothing fancy. Looking for a restaurant that the college kids go to. Good food, not a dive, decent prices. I like for her to be able to see herself going there with her friends. We like all kinds of food. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Best Pizza anywhere. Nice atmosphere. 45 minute wait, but it’s worth it. Go several blocks West on Green St. It’s on the right hand side…

i wholeheartedly agree. Papa Del’s is simply the best pizza ever. The amount of wait time depends on what time you go and how busy they are. but it is well worth the wait!

if you’re from chicago/the suburbs, or used to eating awesome pizza, papa dels is overpriced crap, to be honest. it’s nice to have when you’re stuck in champaign and there’s nothing better around, but all major chicago pizza restaurants are much, much better (lou’s, gioradno’s, uno’s, etc). eating papa dels usually just reminds me of this fact, and i don’t enjoy it as much as maybe i should.

there’s a small south korean restaurant next to firehaus on sixth between green and john called woori jib. this place is an absolute treat. fast food style service, but ive had much worse quality food at sit down restaurants. lai lai wok on 4th and green is also very good oriental.

the beef stand on green between 6th and wright (i believe) is pretty good.

i wish zorba’s hadn’t burnt down over spring break because they had the best gyros in town no question. hopefully they’re back by fall.

zyggyz is pretty tasty if you’re open minded to indian food.

that’s all i can think of right now besides the major chains that you probably already know whether you like (jimmy johns, noodles, chipotle, d.p. dough…)

Well heck, there’s also the Courier in Urbana. Good sandwiches and milkshakes. I also recommend Manzella’s on First in Champaign – a nice family owed Italian restaurant. Also has good pizza. You might also try Timpone’s on 710 S. Goodwin in Urbana. Another overlooked but pretty decent Italian restaurant. Breakfast at Peep’s is cool, too…

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I’ll check them out!

I visited a couple weeks ago and my friends and I went to Top Grill. It’s $13 a plate, but its a stir-fry place. You grab a bowl and put whatever you want in it and they make a stir-fry for you. First time I had it and it was really cool.

^Flat Top Grill, not Top Grill.

I would argue the opposite. I still like Papa Del’s more than any of the major Chicago chains.

I would also recommend the Courier Cafe and Silver Creek in Urbana. Both are quality restaurants. If you are looking for breakfast, go to the Original Pancake House out at Springfield and Mattis. It is fantastic.

Hopefully I didn’t post this too late.
