Sure, glad to share it with you.
It's going to be spread out over a whole bunch of days.

hoagiedp - Your information is incorrect. Admissions is not just sending letters out to accepted students telling them that they can have special visits. The only letters that went out are for acceptances (like they always are for any school) and letters to current RPI students asking them to host. Overnights and extended visits are by request only and it is done by the interested family requesting special attention. There are NOT letters going out to all accepted students offering them the option to come for a visit. If a family asks for a visit admissions will try to accomodate them if possible but by no means is it an open invitation or public declaration that is open to everyone. If something can be worked out and an extended visit is going to take place, then the family receives medical forms and waivers that need to be completed, but this is the first time the family will receive anything from admissions regarding an extended visit.

Hope that helps everyone.

Thanks to both of you for the info.

Things are starting to make sense, and I appreciate having this background for when we contact RPI to visit them this Spring.

Good luck with your classes.

Just an update on weather and kids in the NE- we went last weekend to schools in the MA and PA- (we were at RPI in the fall)- my jr son has not worn a coat all winter and it was supposed to be in the single digits most of Presidents weekend. I went and bought him a coat, gloves, hat and boots. He didn't wear any of it. He wore a short sleeve t-shirt, his heavy sweatshirt and that was it. I was in a full length coat, gloves, hat and boots and still shivering. It was bitter cold. We went to upstate NY to see his sister in the 25inches of snow- he went out at night with her and still just wore his sweatshirt. I figured if he can handle that weekend with just his sweatshirt, he can handle the winter up there.
We had a visit on a Thursday in October at RPI- no one else was at the info session- one of the admit guys talked to he and I for an hour. then we were the only ones on the tour. It was his first college tour, he liked it a lot but when it was the first, he had nothing to compare it to. We saw WPI and others this time and the two are now tops on his list.

Thanks to everybody for their input and especially to the students for letting me know about the unadvertised overnights.

We requested an ovenight stay, but have yet to hear back from RPI "ambassadors" program. Booked the tickets and a hotel, anyway (gotta love Southwest Airlines fares and Priceline hotels!)

Thanks again, and any further suggestions for getting the most out of the visit are appreciated.
