My son and I will be visiting Skidmore this week. He is interestesd in Business/Psychology/Exercise Science and he is also a recruited hockey player.

What are your experiences with Skidmore's academics in those areas of study? Any thoughts on athletics and the hockey program in particular?

S is hoping to attend a school where there is decent to good student attendance at athletic events

the skidmore hockey team has had problems with hazing in the past.

New coach last year, has he put a stop to the hazing?

i dont think theres been any ything in the last year. they used to have serious problems with drinking. my friends dad used to be the athletic director.

My D just completed her freshman year and has continued to find Skid to be an excellent and friendly place to be. Her major areas are in math and sciences so I cannot advise on the Business dept except to say it is a small area of the whole. That attribute can be a big plus or a nig minus depending on one's outlook. Skid will always be able to attract good professors and programs.

Relative to the roar of the crowds; probably not so much. There are only 2400 or so on campus and the school offers virtually every sport other than football. This means that there are very few spectators left over from the participants. That can change if a team is winning a lot, but generally the turnout on the sidelines is made up of friends and teammates rather than large groups of the student body.

Just got back from Skid---our S liked the school very much
It is beautiful from a aesthetic point of view--it was sunny and warm today which certainly helped.

The presenters stated that the #1 major is English followed by Business and Management and the Arts. Seems like it would be a nice academic fit for our son

The hockey coach was terrific. Sounds like they "cleaned house" a year or 2 ago and brought in the current coach last year. He has instituted higher standards for the team from both an academic and social point of view. According the the coach, a couple of students with whom we spoke and admissions folks there are 500-1000 spectators at the home hockey games.
