Visiting Student Programs

Hi everyone,

Last week I posted a thread on the international section, because I want to study in the USA for one year. I learned that I have to apply to visiting student programs.
My problem is that I can't find a lot of programs that meet my wishes.

In short: I'm a dutch medical student (undergraduate, 6-year program) and next year is my last year of my undergraduate. I want to take a break after that, before starting my clinical rotations (graduate). So I would love to take courses in the USA for a year, preferably outside the medical field.
I'm a competitive student and my grades are very good. I also have some EC's that will help me getting admitted (I hope). I don't want to attend a school that's to easy for me. I do however, find extra-curriculars very important and I do want to be able to hang out with friends and see something of the surrounding area etc.
And I really do want a program that offers on-campus housing, because I want to be fully integrated student and don't miss out on anything.

So if you know a good school that offers visiting student programs, please let me know!

UCLA has a visiting student program:

(and a fantastic med school)

Lots of colleges and universities will be happy to set this up for you. Think of the places where you might like to be, your price range, and what you’d like to study, then contact some colleges and universities and ask. It will be most helpful if you can define what you want to study, and then if you can express why college X or university Y will fit into that academic plan.

Have you asked at your current university to find out if they have any exchange programs set up with colleges or universities in the US? That is where I would start.
