Visiting Student?

So, I'm thinking about applying to Barnard's Spring in New York program. I realllly want to go to Barnard, but my lackluster high school grades and test scores make receiving an acceptance letter somewhat of a challenge, if not an entire impossibility. I figured I'd try and get into the spring visiting program, since they don't ask for test scores OR high school transcripts, and I would love, love, love the chance to study at Barnard for a semester and get an internship in Manhattan.

Right now I have a 3.67 cumulative GPA and a 4.0 in my major (English) after my first year. I'm taking 4 advanced classes this semester and 2 intro classes that are part of my general ed requirements. I'm in the honors program, contribute to the literary magazine, and write for the school paper. Does this look competitive for this sort of program?

Also, does anyone have any experience as a visiting student, at Barnard or any school for that matter? I'm guessing they're probably treated the same way as transfers, hopefully.

My son was a visiting student at a top LAC for one semester due to Katrina (as were thousands of Gulf Coast students). Not sure what you mean about "how they are treated." In class, I don't think they are treated any differently from any other student. Are you referring to how treated administratively? socially? academically?

Sorry I have no insight into how competitive you might be for the Barnard Spring program - perhaps someone on the Barnard forum might comment.
