if you were to apply as a visiting student to a bunch of schools for spring 2010, like northwestern for example, would admissions be less rigorous since you are not looking to get a degree? that seems like it should be the case.

has anyone been admitted to a visiting student program successfully? what were your stats, where did you end up, and what was your major at your last school/at the new one?

I know that Columbia accepts a little less than half of their visiting student applicants (this is on their website), which is considerably higher than their transfer admit rate of <10%. Do you know of any other schools that have visiting programs?

NYU has a visiting student program called “spring in new york”. a lot of students come for majors they wouldn’t be able to explore at their home school, such as film/tv or media.
