Visiting TAMU and UT (experiance from an OOS student).

Hello to all. I was asked to make a trhead about this from a request someone made.

First I am going to write about what I thought about TAMU now and I will edit and tell you my thoughts about UT tomorrow after I visit it.

BE ADVISED. I will right according to what comes to mind when I thinkk back on my visit, so it may be in a completely randon thought process.

My trip started at 10:00, I met with an undergraduate engineering councilor for about an hour then met with the Electrical/Computer Engineering department head. BOTH were VERY informative, welcoming, and loving what they do. They what I probably loved most about them was the fact that they told me that no matter where I decide to go, to be sure I will be HAPPY where I go. They were not trying to push or pressure that I got to TAMU at all. IT showed me that they respected the fact that I have options and had to make a decision, even if it does not turn out to be TAMU.
Followng this meeting I had the residence hall tour and saw dorms with very common layouts for a college. The main thing I probably got out of it that stuck out was the security. Frequently ranked Top 10 in security (and the fact that they had the ROTC Core of Cadets' dorms next to the south side student dorms), I don't think I, have to worry about anything bad happening. They even have an escort service where you may call the Core od Cadets ANY TIME (24/7) and they will send a cadet to escort you to your destination (probably only used if its dark and you have to walk a long distance).
After this I went to the posective student information session. The lady presenting gave the usual rankings every college does and went on to the application process. (I assume everyone knows the "Top 10%" and "Top 25% with this SAT or ACT" ways to be auto admitted). Most, however, will be going through the "review applicants" admission. I unfortunetely found out that, in this method of being admitted, applicants would be notified April the latest (a LONG waiting game), BUT I WILL WAIT! (I also assume everyone knows the deadlines for fall admission as well as the deadline for scholarship applications.
For all you OOS applicants, YOU HAVE THE POSSIBILITY OF PAYING IN-STATE TUITION (roughly a $15k discount per year!), The way to do this is to apply for scholarship online. If you get the scholarship, YOU PAY IN-STATE TUITION!
After this I had the campus walking tour, with our guide showing us all the buildings and speaking about MANY of the GREAT traditions.

Overall/ I would give my visit a 10/10, Its an amazing campus, the atmosphere is great, the people are so welcoming, NEED I SAY MORE!

Will edit this post tomorrow with my views on UT.

I'm a current student, and I don't think the escort service works 24/7. (I could be wrong, I never took it to memory, but I hear some people use the escort service to get help with groceries, which the Corps is glad to do because you're getting them out of something else.)

The grammar of your post was a little hard to follow, but it seems you're well informed. Good luck with your choice!

^thanks

and please excuse my grammar, i was in a car, as i am now!

Interesting read - thanks for your review. Have you written your UT review yet?

hmm... I am very interested to see your University of Texas at Austin review... I'm wondering which school I should attend as well.

UT Review

Ok, my trip was different in terms of what I did. I didnt meet and faculty like in TAMU, nor did i have a chance to see the dorms. I did get to do a walking tour and attended an engineering information session.

We did a long walking tour. Personally I liked the campus as much as TAMU, even though they are i completely difff settings.

Hey
Thanks for posting your opinions on both schools. Can you tell me more about your visit to UT? I am planning a visit sometime maybe Thanksgiving Break or Christmas Break but I don't know exactly when. What activities/fun stuff can you do at UT that you cannot do at A&M and vice versa? Once again thank you very much for posting this information. Good luck with your college decision.

well the main difference, as i said before, is the setting. College Station is pretty much a college town, not much cultural stuff to do (like museums and stuff). But to be honest it appears to be the best setting "to feel home".

Austin, on the WAY other hand, is a college within a city, you will have PLENTY of stuff to do, which is a good thing if you get bored, but bad if you are easily distracted.

Im still debating on where I am going to end up going, hope this helped.

thanks for the posts.

i just got accepted into both UT and A&m and i've decided i'm going to go to UT.

good luck with you.

Looking at your previous posts and your moniker, I would have been surprised if you chose A&M. ;) Good luck to you!

haha i know right.
