Visiting the Academy

My family and I plan on visiting Kings Point, USMA and USCGA this summer. I was wondering if there were any pointers you might want to give me i.e. questions to ask, places to observe...Thank you- John

USMA has a wonderful campus, and I would suggest walking around and seeing especially the Stadium and the view of the Hudson. At KP I would suggest visiting the muesum on the McNulty Campus and the War Memorial. USCGA is actually pretty boring.

isnt it a closed campus durring indoc?

Yeah I must say that USMA is just plain awesome. Coast Guard Academy is the exact opposite. Boring place with boring surroundings.

the campus is closed during the summer. you cant just walk on and "tour" it at your will.

JT, visits to the Academy are very structured. You have to set it up. Here's a link telling about visits.

yes, thank you. We have made the proper arrangements.

We actually found the town of New London, CT. where the USCGA is located to be a charming locale. The Academy was closed during our summer visit and we were not allowed to tour, but there were a lot of red brick buildings which were the only things we could see from outside the fence.

The CGA is boring? What were you expecting, carnival rides? The buildings aren't important it's what goes on inside that counts.
Read "Absolutely American" and find out what the cadets at West Point think about their "scenic campus."
You can visit the CGA year around. It is an open installation as long as you have proper ID.
Check out the link to pics...it is actually an attractive campus for those that find this important.

Here is info on visiting the campus. Some buildings may be closed but you can get a feel for the school.

You will find 3 very different campuses, so it is great you can actually visit - it does make a big difference when you can see the places and talk to real people. Ask lots of questions and try to talk to real students in an informal situation. You can best find people at the school stores or casual eating places.

Thank you Weski I think that you have a great idea! The informal places seem to be where I learn the most anyways. Thank you-John
