D is considering doing some transfer apps to some of the Claremont schools. She has not visited. We had thought about driving out tomorrow and looking around. A 2 hour drive each way without traffic. For those who have visited do the campus's show better with students around?
I am rethinking it and now thinking she might be better off spending the time starting the applications and essays. I am hoping this is just an exercise and she will stay where she is.

We visited the Claremonts while classes were in session and felt that it was helpful to sit in on a class and talk with students (D is now a first-year at Pomona). The campuses are all beautiful, but without exposure to the student experience, you won't get the whole picture. You might call, though, because I understand some students (athletes primarily) are already back on campus.

Good luck to your D on the decision!

definitely visit while students are there; we visited over the summer and it was barren.

fwiw: even tho they won't state it publicly, if you live nearby Pomona essentially requires a visit for demonstrated interest.

We visited Pomona over Memorial Day weekend and it was empty. S wasn't too impressed. Visited again in November.....big difference!

I would recommend visiting when class in session.

Good luck with your daughter's decision!

FresnoMom and bluebayou you confirmed what I had been thinking. She is coming home for the long weekend from her college and it was just a thought.
We live in a beautiful part of Ca and I would think that part of Southern Ca would not look as good minus students.
I am hoping she just stays where she is. I don't see her in Southern California. If she ends up deciding to transfer and gets in I think she can visit then.
