My cousin wants to take her daughter to visit both Tufts and BU this summer before camp, but they only have one day. First off, is this doable? Both schools have tours that day, but I don't know if she has checked to see if they each have a morning and afternoon session. She also is trying to get by to see a coach at each school if they are available.

Any hotel recommendations? Should they stay closer to Tufts or BU? I guess it will depend on which school they visit in the morning. Can they get between the schools by subway; they will not have a car.

Any suggestions for visiting these two schools?

Difficult, but not impossible.

Tufts is about a 10-15 minute walk up College Ave from the Davis Square Station on the Red Line. BU is right on the B branch of the Green Line. Depending on your budget, there are hotels near Alewife, Harvard, and Kendall/Cambridge Center on the Red Line. I think there also may be a Bed and Breakfast on Mass Ave in North Cambridge that is about a 15-20 minute walk from Tufts. (Its about 5 minutes from Davis in the opposite direction from Tufts).

It probably takes between 45-60 minutes to go between the two by subway including the 15 minute walk between Tufts and the Davis Square subway station. If money isn't an issue, its probably only 15-20 minutes by taxi, which can be picked up in Davis Sq. I'm guessing its maybe $35.

We visited both schools in one day---Tufts in the a.m. and BU in the p.m.We had driven up there, it was quite easy to park at both places.

My daughter and I did this in April.

BU in the morning and Tufts in the afternoon. We took the T between the two schools. We ended up being a little late for the Tufts info session that we had signed up for. There was a later one that we could have hung around for, but this was day 5 of a spring break college tour week and we were just as glad to leave.

I would recommend signing up for the sessions with as much time as possible in between. You could lunch in either Kenmore Square near BU or Davis Square near Tufts if not at one of the campuses.

The T was easy. Bring a good map to make sure that you take the right spoke out of Davis Square to find Tufts. !!

I thought I read that there was a 15-20 minute walk from the T to Tufts; is that about right? Not a problem if the weather is good and there is enough time between the tours, but if it is raining they might be slowed down a bit!

I believe the Tufts website has good directions for walking from the T to campus or was that to the Medical Center, I forget? Anyone have great directions getting between the two school by way of the T? Which lines and where to change and get off, etc.. My cousin is one of those that needs step by step directions. I can look this up for her and write it out, but if someone has done it before and knows the way, I will steal your directions! I have an older Frommer's guide book that I will give her; I might even have a T map somewhere.

PM me for the name of a great place to stay very close to Davis (shhh, it's a secret!). The walk is 10 minutes direct to the south side of campus. Do get a good map to get to Tufts. You can also take the Joey (the free shuttle) but the timing is not all that reliable. The T lets you off in Davis.
