Visiting UM on a non-Campus Day- will we miss much?

We will be visiting a few schools to which my son has been admitted over the next weeks. UM is not first choice. but high enough that we want to visit.

We are coming from Seattle and have some scheduling issues. That means we will end up visiting UM on a weekday that is not a scheduled Campus Day.

Can anyone comment on what is offered on a Campus Day that we might try and do on our own, and if this requires ant advance planning?

I posted a longer answer on the following thread.

The biggest differences that I see between the admitted student days and a “regular” tour are:

Regular Tour has no dorm visit.

Regular tour has no stop for lunch in a dorm cafeteria.

Regular tour doesn’t have the same in-depth tour of sub-schools (Business, Nursing etc) within the university. This would be the main difference that you might be able to address with a little planning ahead of time.

The admitted student tours are about selling both parent and student on the wonders and joys of Michigan. There are presentations designed to answer any possible question you might have as well as get you more familiar with some of the traditions around campus. I would suggest calling the Admissions Office and explaining your situation and seeing if there is someone you can sit down with afterwards who could address any specific questions you might have. Who knows? With a little luck there might be a few other “admitteds” that day and maybe they could put you together and give you a more focused tour. Good Luck.

Really helpful info-thanks!!
