I'm interested in attending university in the UK and I would like to know if visiting universities there could make or break the application. Also I would like to know the good engineering schools there, well I already know imperial Cambridge and Southampton, but I also heard about glasgow and I want to know how rigorous the admissions process is there.

Here’s the ARWU ranking of engineering schools; the Shanghai Ranking is the most well known world ranking.

[Academic Ranking of World Universities in Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences - 2012| 2012 Top 100 Universities in Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences |ARWU-FIELD 2012](http://www.shanghairanking.com/FieldENG2012.html)

You can check the British institutions there. (Cambridge comes as 15th, Harvard as 37th, but Georgia Tech is 8th, LOL - but again, this ranking is mainly based on research output in the chosen field)

Glasgow is a very decent university, top 100 worldwide…can’t say it’s extremely rigorous but a kind of upper-medium level. In Scotland it’s a way harder to get into St. Andrews and Edinburgh.

Thank you so much!
