Visiting UR

I'm probably going to make a (6hr-ish) drive up to UR and I was wondering if anybody has an suggestions for me in terms of what to do/see or any other helpful information. Thanks!

The library is a must see.

Dinosaur BBQ. Ask in the admissions office for directions and map.

Also if you have a few hours/half a day to spare, Niagara Falls is about an hour west of Rochester.

Just remember that school’s out now and I don’t think the summer session has yet begun.

Summer session 1 began this past Monday (May 17).

If you mean what to do in the city, then I suggest orienting yourself by driving downtown to the Eastman School then out to the east toward and past George Eastman House, which is a museum (and is near the art museum) and then through some of the neighborhoods in that area. You’ll see that Rochester is easy to get around, has some big companies and a real downtown, some very nice neighborhoods a few minutes from downtown, etc. The bad area of town is northwest of downtown away from UR.

The strip stores, mall, etc. are a few minutes south of UR.

Otherwise, on campus see not only the Rush Rhees library but Gleason, which is really a collaborative study library, the gym, etc. I assume there are campus tours.

There are campus tours scheduled every week day. They leave from the Admissions Office.

Visit the flagship Wegmans in Pittsford. Eat at their companion resturant Tastings.

Oh wow, just saw on the Wegmans site they opened up another place called Next Door Bar & Grill.

…and I believe they closed Tastings.

True… Tastings was replaced by ‘Next Door’, which has recieved great reviews.

I think all of the recommendations above are great… If you are interested in the city, you may want to check out the George Eastman House. It is a great place to spend an afternoon. Depending on the day/week that you are in town, there may be a variety of festivals and other forms of entertainment as well.

I can’t believe as a big Wegmans fan, we did not visit their flag store this time…

Hotel - Staybridge Suite, around US$104.00 with free breakfast, very clean, nice decoration and comfortable. With a small kitchen (fully equiped). Great location (two mins to campus).

We visited the campus this Tuesday, nice early summer weather (bring a light jacket for night out). We love it so much ! Now, Rochester is his first priority dream school !!!

Arling: We stay at that hotel too. It is very convenient. Once we visited, UR became our top school too! We are so happy our D decided on UR. She loves it very much. We still haven’t visited Wegmans yet.

arling… Glad to hear your visit went so well. Let me know if your son has any questions over the course of the next year!

Definitely check out Park Avenue! There are a million restaurants of all sorts. There are also little shops and such. I go there all the time :)

Just came back from college trip, suggest try Abbot’s Frozen Custard.

Abbott’s is delicious and a favorite of my wife.
