Has anyone arranged a visit/tour through the National Merit Office? How long do typical visits/tours last?
We did a tour last spring break but not through the NM office. It started at 9ish and we did not leave until after 1. We ate lunch in the cafeteria, saw the dorm rooms, full campus tour and spoke to representatives from 2 different colleges. They offered this tour every day during spring break. It would be nice, if we went back, for D to sit in a class.
@3scoutsmom does the kid need to be a NMSF to do the visit through National Merit Office? Or can it be a kid that will sure be a NMSF when the kiddo gets to 11th grade? I would really like to look at UTD for my nerdy daughter. She is no Rah-Rah kid at all.
@VANURSEPRAC I don’t know, at OU they encouraged “prospective” NM students to arrange tours through the scholars office. I sent an email requesting a meeting with Amanda Ryder, I think she is the only one who handles National Merit at UTD. I explained that we would be in the area on X day and that although my son was still a high school sophomore, he scored 1500 on the OCT PSAT and is a straight A student and he was ready to start thinking about colleges, would she be available?
I’m betting it will be entirely based on her schedule and if she’s not available we’ll just take the regular tour. I’ll let you know what she says when I hear back from her.
@3scoutsmom
Thank you, as you are sooooo helpful for me!
@VANURSEPRAC I got a reply to my request for a visit and Ms. Ryder would be happy to arrange a tour and meeting with the Honors College
@3scoutsmom, have a good visit and let me know what you think.
