Visiting Virginia

I'm going to Virginia for a weekend and have to decide between visiting UVA and William and Mary. Where do you think I should go? My whole family's going. It's kind of like a mini vacation.

Well, since the family has to be entertained, you have Monticello near Charlottesville, and Colonial Williamsburg next to the W+M campus. Both are popular vacation stops. If you have to pick just one I'd do it on size, the most obvious difference. W+M is less than half the size of UVA. Which size appeals most?

If you have no preference, college-wise, then I would suggest vacationing in Williamsburg. Besides Colonial Williamsburg, there is Busch Gardens, Jamestown/Yorktown, colonial plantations to tour, etc. Just a lot more to do than at Charlottesville. But be warned: some students are turned off of W&M precisely because Williamsburg is so touristy.

In addition to the tourist thing, with Wren Hall a stop for the tourist buses, some students are turned off by the grade deflation...
